Where's Preston Henn's 275/GTB/C?

If the ad is real, it's refreshing in a way. A short ad in Hemming? I didn't know the man, but I suspect Mr. Henn is smiling somewhere. At the end of the day, these are just cars.

The co-driver was Jean BLATON, not Blanton. He raced under nom de pilot "Beurlys" so that his parents would not know. One would think that The Amelia team would have caught the mistake.

 

The sister car, 06701, sold ten years ago for 26.4 M $ all in.
06885 is a totally different animal, of course.
But as I said it is in a trust, set up 2012 when PH was 81.
Today probably food for the lawyers.

Interesting. The key is the trustee's powers under the trust agreement.

 

I was reliably informed that the family is looking for a number in excess of $70mm. It is still for sale.

 

06701 sold very well in 2014 though only bid to 23m US in January 2024 and we do not know if that was a real bid.

As fabulous and special as 06885 is to those that know and appreciate it, at an asking price in excess of 70 M US, is it really worth substantially more than any 250 GTO has ever sold for?

 

06701: It sold for (a real and genuine bid of) 24 M $ hammer (not 23 M $!!) plus 10% premium = total price US$ 26'400'000.
And that was on 26 August 2014. All parties involved are personally known to me and I was present as well.

Steve: If you mean the January 2024 Kissimmee "sale", that was a complete joke and there was absolutely zero genuine bid whatsoever. That auctioneer just tried to lift it up and find a victim. There was NO bid. Zero, nada, nothing. One day you should attend a cattle auction in Texas. It can be really amusing and is pure entertainment, very American.

I wasn't disputing that 06701 sold for 26.4 M US in 2014. I just stated that it sold very well in 2014 at that price. At the January 2024 Mecum auction it was only bid to 23 M US.

I saw Mr Henns 275 at cavalino in probably 2015 and snapped a posed picture of my lovely wife next to that car and it has been the opening page of my I pad ever since ….My wife is not a car person particularly and that was the only time she went to Cavalino with me. My absolute favorite car
THE picture was at the airport cocktail party that year…

 

Not a consignment.
Same with the 275 NART Spider and the 250 GT SWB Cal Spy. I hear the auction company paid $ 35 M for those two (package deal).

Which underlines my point that it sold very well in 2014 as it was clearly not worth its 2014 price in January 2024.

 

Wrong auction company, wrong timing, wrong marketing, wrong everything incldg. wrong color and wrong restoration, and even lack of race history. This kind of car doesn't sell at such an auction. And the market in 2014 was soooo totally different than in 2024.
