    Hey guys
The windows on my new to me 84 bbi are really slow. I'm going to clean and grease the gear drives but need some opinions on adding separate relays for the windows. I added the relays per Paul's drawing to my 78 308 and it sped the windows up a bunch even after new grease. As the window wiring on the bbi is more direct with two rather than three window switchs I'm wondering if the is any advantage to adding the relays to the bbi?

    Thanks
    Barry

Adding relays that provide both +12V and ground (and none of the window motor current goes thru the window switches) = probably yes
Adding relays that only provide a better ground (and the current still flows thru some of the window switch contacts) = not so much

What you should do first is supply +12V and ground directly to the window motor:
If it moves a lot more quickly = electrical problem = add the relays (or replace the window switches).
If it still moves slowly = mechanical problem = lube window motor, window motor gearbox, rollers, window channel guides, etc..

    Thanks steve.
Yeah it looks like the current goes through the switch .Even though the wiring runs are shorter then on a 308 I think it would probably help. But I will try hooking 12 volts directly to the motors and see what it does thank you.

Sometimes the window channel felt gets pretty sticky due to the lubing. That was my issue with slow windows. Replacing the window channels made a 100 percent difference. Might want to keep in mind in case the above answers do not resolve the problem to your satisfaction.

Thanks for the suggestion. Actually I found a large part of the problem. The PO kept a trickle charger on (mounted in the front compartment) all the time. I noticed if I didn't plug the trickle charger in for a couple of days it struggled a little when I first hit tie key. Put a new battery in it last night and the like magic the windows are 100% better. Not perfect but good enough that I don't have to do any thing right away. Wasn't looking forward to the insane window cable installation.

I often find new switches makes a big difference.
