Yes the wets and grey sky certainly indicate miserable weather.

You ain't kidding about the weather on Saturday! I spent all day going back and forth between my car (parked along Wedgewood Road) and the garage, and every time I returned to my car, I had to turn on the heater full blast to dry out my feet! I seem to remember that Ronnie Peterson was the only driver to venture out on the track. During the afternoon session, he went out in his March and spun out on his first lap! Once he was towed back to the garage, no one went out the rest of the day! The entire day was a waste and I should have stayed in my motel in Ithaca. But it was only my second Grand Prix and I guess I didn't want to miss anything. I don't even remember what I did for lunch. At least Sunday was dry and the race featured a good duel between Hunt's McLaren and Scheckter's six-wheeled Tyrrell, until the latter's tires began to go off. The wounded Lauda finished 3rd to maintain his title hopes.

I learned my lesson that weekend. The next time I encountered Saturday weather that terrible - Austin in 2015 - I stayed in my motel in Seguin all day, and not surprisingly, I didn't miss any action at the track!

Great memory! I think that Brambilla went out as well, either he or Ronnie had a 10 minute lap time. I arrived at the track to camp in the infield at close to midnight on Friday, there was a brief snow flurry. The mud in the spectator areas was treacherous.

The weather looks a whole lot better here than in my previous post.

A bit of a sad end to the career of the original Master of Monaco.

Indeed and also scarily refered to as the "lose your feet" layout in the event of a heavy frontal impact.

Was this practice? It seems strange to have the rear bodywork removed for quali or the race, unless it was overheating, but considering other places they ran, Detroit in June isn't likely to be the hottest or lowest density altitude.

I'm not sure to be honest but Mansell retired from the race with engine problems so maybe it was overheating or something.
