Best classic manual V12 in 10-15 years from now?

Totally agree driving a manual v12 from Ferrari just feels like a billion dollars. I mean your driving royalty

 

The key to the answer is the timeframe. In 15 years it will be the 599 as that will have been the V12 car poster on the wall when the buyer was a kid.

 

The 599 was designed to get the F1 system, it was not intended to be configured as pure manual even though the option was available. And being in its latest iteration, the F1 system was also rather good (for what it was) - unlike on the F355 for instance.

 

None of that matters when I analyze future values.

 

The days of getting in an oem gated 599 for a decent price are long gone. The rarity and collectibility are already priced in current values.

In 2018 I was offered a 4k mile gated 599 from a Ferrari dealer for around 400k. I balked at the price at the time. What a mistake!

The F1 in the 599 was very good and I'm sure tremendous in the 599 GTOs SF2 iteration, but a properly calibrated gated 599 is as organic as any gated V12 Ferrari I've experienced... the only difference being the wild and bombastic F140 V12 that make the preceding V12s lazy in comparison. It is sublime and easily daily drivable.

 

LOL, nobody had 599 posters on their walls.....did Ferrari even make 599 posters? The V-8s have been the focus of the public since the F-40 debuted.

Remember, the topic is manual V-12s.....very few 599s produced, unless the franken-conversions count.

Hey now, it’s always easy to predict when it’s already happened! Gated 599 already trades for same amount as Daytona, and it didnt need 50 years to get there.

 

Maybe so, maybe no.....there is no guarantee it will even be legal to drive a V-12 in 20 years. Will anybody even want a manual transmission car then? The market was alot easier to predict 20 years ago....hell, I'm probably right 100% of the time on that basis.

 

Yes, eventually the desire for manual transmissions will die out along with the generations that enjoyed them, and automatics will be all that's left and no one will remember that there was ever an alternative.

Cars with lots of electronics are already favored over those with less. No automaker even tries the alternative these days. The '05-'06 Ford GT was truly the end of that era.

15 years with all that is happening in the automotive industry is a very big timeframe.
I had a 360 and a Testarossa and my son considered them uber cool cars. Years later my grandson had no interest at all for the "red cars in the back" and was mesmerized by the "magic doors" of my wifes Tesla X.
In about 15 years (I will probably be dust) the little one may or may not be interested in internal combustion engines and may or may not know how to drive with a stick.
We are moving forward on a very fast pace and as it happened with older cars of the 50s and 60s, what is collectible and what not has to do with the buyers of the time.
One thing is for sure, Miami Vice or Magnum PI, for that generation will have the same effect that a black and white movie has to us.
So probably the valuable ones will be the best looking with the fewer examples around... and lets be honest, an F40 is a beautifull beast that due to a small batch has an astronomical value for what it is. If there were 3.000 or 5.000 around, it would be a "cool old car" that tries to kill you in every opportunity.

It will always be legal to drive a v12 Ferrari. What a silly remark you made. Of course people will want a manual car. What kind of silliness are you spewing ?

 

Could not have said this better, sure the Tesla might be a better all round car, but something someone would prefer to have with 0 emotion in it that you have difficulty staying awake in.... i will never ever understand

 

Hopefully in 20 years, mileage will have less of an influence on value. '02 gated 575M with FHP, one of 4(?) imported that year, one of 15-20(?) total imported. Essentially worthless on present day market due to mileage.

The Model X is a minivan, why would you be comparing it to a sports car? Folks buy a Model X because its practical, and they may get the Plaid version for a bit of fun while they're by themselves. It's going to be way more fun than anything else on the market with 7 seats.

I love my Model S. It looks fantastic, handles wonderfully, and is a blast to drive. Its got personality, it makes a subtle noise that I like and it puts a smile on my face every time I floor it. Is it a Ferrari? No. But its way better than a current M5. Just cause you don't like it doesn't mean other people don't enjoy it.

 

I don’t trust that the government wouldn’t ban all ICE cars for some climate change rediculousness. You either are way too trusting or live in Fantasyland with a Disney princess…good for you as they are smoking hot.

 

Over time milage will have less and less influence for rare classics, like yours. IMO.

In the future, young people will want to experience a gated manual v12 Ferrari. And they won’t care about the mileage the way todays boomers do

 

The Tesla sucks I drove the plaid and it gives you a headache, makes you dizzyand everything inside the car creaks. I’m just being honest here. I have no reason to hate.
Then the key is like some stupid credit card you have to hold against the door. None of it makes any sense
