I dont expect Lewis to clinch the title with Ferrari because I doubt the car is there. But I do expect him to win a couple races, basically the same I expect from Chuck and what he and Sainz did last season.

As for longevity: Well, Lewis is 40 and has done it all so I see this as his final hurray so he can check the Ferrari box in his resumee. I give him one or two seasons tops.

You are, apart of the rest, forgetting the cultural aspect. Having lived in eight countries I can tell you that Lewis will have an uphill battle to adapt to an Italian culture and team as he has dealt only with English teams in F1.
Don't underestimate that. If he does not feel happy with everything he does not function well.

I contend that Lewis had perfect timing with drives at Maclaren and Mercedes. With perfect rides, most any driver would have done very well. I will give Lewis credit for driving with extremely few/minimal mistakes. Avoiding mistakes can be a major advantage. All said, Lewis will be challenged, I am rooting for Leclerc.

When Lewis made the swap to Merc it wasn't clear at all that this would be a winning ticket. Many thought that he just curtailed his career since the great MS wasn't able to do anything with the Merc so far. Call it lucky, if you like, but many drivers chose the wrong team at certain points in their career. Lewis was smarter than that.

Ron Dennis and Niki Lauda chose Lewis.
Without Dennis grooming him from adolescence he might never have made it to F1. Lauda shared with Lewis how Mercedes had an unassailable advantage over the opposition with the upcoming switch to the hybrid formula.
Lewis is no genius--he is a talented driver who was at the right place at the right time.

He seems very well connected. I have my hopes that he's heard something about Ferrari that be believes will make them a championship contender over the next few years, rather than all this just being the case of wanting to scratch the itch of racing in red before he retires.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

So how much money has Ferrari actually paid Lewis to date...meaning have checks been written and has Lewis cashed them? And what is the buy out cost if Ferrari wants to end the relationship early? And if Lewis dominates (but doesn't win the WDC) and Charles folds, how much would it cost Ferrari to get rid of Charles? And is Ollie Bearman ready and willing to become Lewis' new George Russell?

Well he read a few sentences from his phone screen, anybody can do that, that is not speaking Italian but he will learn during the year, to what extent we will see. It is actually an easy pleasant language to learn compared to French or German.
Italians are very welcoming and warm hearted when you try to speak their language they encourage you, as happened to me when I learned it during a 6 month work period in Modena in 2006...whereas in some other countries if you don't speak their language well they bluntly tell you to stick to English.

I recall Schumacher getting an award from the city of Modena and reading a speech in...Modenese dialect, THAT was much appreciated by the very surprised locals and took some preparation, a nice gesture:)!

+1 LH should be lauded for effort. At his age a new language to learn is difficult. The people who do laugh at him for his effort should try it themselves.

So true. F1 history is full of has-beens who sat in winning cars and didn't do diddly squat with them.

I wonder how much of an issue that really is:
Ferrari is no back water team where nobody knows how to speak English. I would bet that all the folks working on the car know English, the engineers and team principals certainly do.
Lewis isn't the first non Italian speaking driver to join the team. In fact the last non Italian speaking Ferrari F1 driver happens to also be the last one to win the WDC with Ferrari....

So if anything it might be more of a cultural barrier to win the team over but the recent photographs show that Lewis is doing quite alright in that regard.

I never saw it confirmed, but I read that Kimi Raikkonen couldn't speak English when he arrived at Sauber, and that communication with the real was a real problem initially. Peter Sauber put him on a crash course to learn the basics.

Kimi is not loquacious in any language. He let his driving do the talking.

Kimi always knew English. He just didn't want to be bothered by the team.

Leave me alone. I know what I'm doing.

Lol for $100 million dollars I’d learn in a heartbeat. It’s not like he can’t hire the world’s best tutor or just live in Italy and practice daily. Italian is a relatively easy language to pick up.

I learned Portuguese in six months minus the $100 million ;)

I give Hamilton a lot of credit. After seeing his pit walks for the past few seasons I thought he would dress outlandishly when coming to Ferrari but instead showed respect wearing a suit and dressed impeccably.
Now he is trying to embrace and speak the Italian language. As much as we disliked him at Mercedes, I bet we will love him at Ferrari.
