Hey guys, doing a cool project and wanted to know if anyone had or knows of a 308/328 basketcase for a donor for this project. Thanks in advance
Maybe before putting you on to a car to potentially be destroyed by another misguided custom project we should know something about "the coolness" of this project. Too many Ferraris are already gone forever to just blindly off up yet another.
Brian, it’s an F40 restomod project. Working with a respected builder. I’ve completed several high value projects, including but not limited to 2 high value Protouring cars originally built in California. One of these cars is underpinned by a ZERO mile , new C6 corvette chassis and drivetrain. If you know of a decent roller, I’d like to get the details. Thanks Jules
I should mention that I’ve been after an original F40 for several years and they just continue to get just outside my grasp. I reached out to Joe S here on the site who found one close to my budget but frankly not close enough. I didn’t want a replica but you know, after seeing some amazing collections which are much bigger than mine, with guys who have much more in the way of means at their disposal having replicas in their high quality vast collections , and frankly some really good options available today, I’ve decided to invest in a very cool project that will be exact to an F40 yet upgraded in every way. We are contemplating several power options. There is also an element (that I am keeping a secret for now) which will blow your minds. I will document it as we go. In the meantime, if anyone has or knows of a roller, I would like to know about it for this noble project.
There’s a barely there chassis that comes up for sale in Lancaster/Pearblossom California from time to time, Craigslist, only 10k and no title
Thanks VB. Obviously title preferred but that is a good number I don’t suppose you want to donate your great car to a worthy cause do ya?
ok bud, you can just FO now and take your miserable old CNT know it all self to another thread. I don’t care how many Ferraris you’ve fixed. You don’t know me and I don’t want to know you. FO
There are many users on Fchat who believe it's wrong to use an aging Ferrari as a project platform vs faithful restoration. It's OK to disagree, but Brian is just voicing what many feel. The response you chose is not OK though. Attacking another user. 7-day ban.
Sadly ferrari will almost certainly sue you and seek its destruction. There is another similar project going now but with an original body so they can't claim a copyright infringement. Caution i guess is the word.
If it gets built I'm not sure how it doesn't end up crushed. I don't agree with ferrari's legal statagy, but that is their MO. A real ferrari chassis might save it....might...but my (limited) understanding is copyright law is pretty strong.
And if he is in the USA as I suspect he is how exactly does that happen? US courts have never allowed it before. Why would they in this case? You can build pretty much anything you want as long as you do not misrepresent what it is. Put a Ferrari badge on it and you might be ordered to take it off. Some European courts have been more supportive of Ferraris antics but American courts don't give a **** who Ferrari is.
It's your money, do what you like. It only makes the remaining 308's more valuable. Have fun and keep us posted.
As they say on BaT, "That escalated quickly." Hey, come on guys, cut Jules some slack; he's obviously new to the World Wide Web.... Hopefully he'll come back after his timeout...I'm dying to learn of this "secret element" because it's been a minute since I've had my mind blown. - Dave
Sort of felt like a sleazy way of asking someone for something for free. Especially when he is asking for something of value. Who are you? You haven't contributed here. Then suggesting @Vonbarron that he should just give up the project car he's put time into after actually providing a viable option!?! It's all highly offensive behavior and interaction. Do what everyone else does - Reach out to the breakers, scour the web for cars / parts that fit your criteria, make offers and get rejected or accepted. It's a process. Ugh!
Why would a 3x8 be a good fit for a F40 replica? I know the F40's block shares a (very distant) lineage with the 3x8, but do they share the same wheelbase? It's not a monocoque like the F40.
Its really not. The 308 and F40 have an incredible number of interchangeable engine parts and except for the dry sump requirements the block has very few important differences. The chassis is another thing. A 308 chassis is totally unsuitable unless you wanted the equivalent of a Ferrari body on a Fiero.
A true builder would buy a $90k 308 and take it apart, always start with the best example. You guys saw how I suffered with a 5k one. I’d like a strawberry margarita Brian if there’s some extra in the blender
