How concerned should I be about a head gasket leak on an essentially brand new 900 mile F8 that I haven’t even taken possession of yet. Was discovered during the PPI and its being fixed at no expense but a bit alarming on an essentially new car. I’m being told its fairly routine on the F8 but my SoCal service guys are saying they’ve never seen one, especially one where the engine needs to be removed.

Sucks for sure. My brand new GT3 RS (< 200 miles) had to have a transmission replaced. I just bought a CPO Performante from Lamborghini Newport Beach they said wasn't tuned and turns out it is tuned. So back to the dealer, engine out and cats replaced.

I can say on these out of the "ordinary" repairs you do seem to get extra care and attention even after the fact. At least my experience. You know the saying s*** happens. When I was younger, I would go ape s*** over these type of things. Nowadays... nothing really surprises me that much anymore.

Other then it sucks. I think you'll be fine in the long run. My opinion of course.

Appreciate the insight. I’m not freaking out….yet

just want to make sure that this issue isn’t something to be incredibly alarmed about. They seem to say it’s somewhat common with the F8. They are def going to fix it. More curious if this will lead to bigger issues down the road or if it is something that will impact selling the car down the road. Although I wa hoping to keep this car a long time.

    Glad to hear that
Did Ferrari NA give the local dealership any grief on the warranty claim process?
    Just curious

My guys in socal raised the same red flag about warranty. They seem to say it’s covered but socal wasn’t so sure

so far there is no issue re warranty but this is all happening in real time in the last 24 hours so let’s see what happens. I’m trying to make them ship me the car and I’ll handle it but they are saying they can’t ship as a CPO with a 2 year warranty. Mess

A factory warranty would cover it, but CPO specifically excludes fluid leaks
Keep up apprised and I wish you the best of luck
The leak seems more like a weep?
Would leaving it alone and monitoring the situation be an option?
    Engine-out service is no joke

I said the exact same thing. Said ship me the car and let me handle it but they are refusing to ship with 2 year warranty and CPO as promised. SoCal says same thing. Taking the engine out is absurd.

Conscientious of them to spot it and decent of them to admit it and set the wheels in motion to correct it.

I understand it is uncomfortable to have all that intrusive work done, but perhaps it makes your F8 a bit more hardy than those who have yet to be corrected.

I wouldn't want to own a F8 after warranty after hearing this.

Question is. What caused it to fail? Defective H/G? Overheat? Overboost?

I wouldn't say it's common on just F8's , rather any TTV8, regardless of what platform it's installed in.
( Cali T, 488, F8, etc ) hence why I am always suggesting warranty extensions & Power 16 when available.
Regarding the engine out aspect, while semi-labor intensive, they come out and reinstall pretty easily. ( Not as easy as a 991/992 but similar )

CPO means the car has passed CPO inspection checklist
and then has either warranty extension or Power16 coverage ( or combination of the two ) for 2 years
Currently, both warranty extension & power16 options cover head gasket replacement.

Dealership is saying they want to make sure that everything is perfect when the car is delivered. Can’t fault them for that. They already got the replacement approved by Ferrari at no cost to me and while it will take a few weeks to fix which sucks, they have a 20 year master Ferrari tech working on the issue. They claim the engine will run better than ever since he is likely more detailed, and will take more Time with it than Ferrari did when making it. Based on what I’ve read on f chat over the years, I believe that’s possible. At the same time, what else are they going to say. Car will be CPO upon completion with power and 2 year extended warranty when the original warranty ends at the end of the year.

I guess my overall concern is whether this is an issue that will snowball from here, or did they catch it, fix it, and now it’s resolved. There is no wear or signs of the car being tracked whatsoever. Had them film the entire under carriage. Front splitter is spotless and PPF has zero wear. They think it’s from the car being driven too little over 3 years. Only has 900 miles and no sign of wear anywhere. Fishy or buying it? I’m leaning towards believing it…..

Maybe the low mileage? Caused the gasket to shrink?

@Faider hate this for you but it can be fixed. It's do you want the car really bad or go get a different F8 is what it boils down to. May never know why the head gasket is leaking...or to me looks more like a weep. Usually from my car experience a head gasket weeping will start leaking. I'd get it fixed as you do not know what the internal weep or leak is like and you do not want oil and water mixing. Like you I would be concerned too.

A Ferrari is a unit. Don't get emotionally attached. Buy a different one. Why make someone else's problem your problem?

Could be infant mortality, maybe cuz the car’s been sitting. Let them fix it, and drive it if you take possession.

These cars don’t like to sit……

I love the spec and have been looking for Verde Masoni for quite some time. Livery needs some work but that’s manageable. I do trust the dealership and they are adamant they can fix it. Fortune favors the bold(famous last words)….
