Hi there, I'm dinking around on some side-projects waiting for my brake booster to get rebuilt (long story). Up next is installing the new luggage cover. Seems pretty straightforward but wondering which glue people use for this? I was considering contact cement.
    Thanks!

It doesn't need glue. The gasket that seals the compartment to the bonnet and goes over the pinch weld holds it.

Get your cover centered, start installing the gasket in the forward center over the material and on the pinch weld, stretch as you go. When finished, trim the excess material on the outside.

can you share the source of the cover and price? were the openings for the deck latches cut? was there reinforcement "board" around the deck latch cut out?

I bought one from SP last year and it's miserable quality so want to replace (again)

There was a crap-ton of glue on the original, looked like contact cement which is why I'll ask. My trunk seal is still in good shape and was planning to re-use but not sure it 'pinches' strong enough to hold the cover in place.

I purchased from Superformance a few weeks back. It was just under 200 pounds UK. They call it a "Boot Cover" part number 60114808. There are no latch holes cut in it, nor does it include the backing plates - I used my disintegrated old backing plates as a template and cut new ones out of a Rubbermaid container lid I had laying around. I'll try to snap some photos later but the material looks pretty nice and seems to have some rating/certification.

Thx - that's the same one I purchased from SP. I didn't know when I purchased it that the latch holes were not cut and that there was no reinforcement around the latch holes. I later learned that the better/more expensive ones have the holes cut and the reinforced backing - live and learn...

I cut the holes using the old one as a template and made Masonite pieces for the backing reinforcement and its "acceptable" but not great (wrinkles, etc.). As for the strength of the trunk seal "pinch," I believe there is metal in there that you can squeeze to tighten up the pinch so if the rubber is still good you can just re-use

The factory did use a contact type cement but to me it makes a messy process. I usually use 3M trim adhesive. I have done a bunch of them and use a number of paper clips of the type pictured. I align the holes for the latches and clip in place in a number of locations keeping it nicely stretched tight. Then with a brush apply glue in short stretches and install the rubber as you go to hold in place. Trim edge when done.

Thank you and if you are buying the covers with the latch holes and reinforcement already done, where do you source them from?

I know Brian but they have held just fine for me without glue. I am on my 2nd replacement in the 47 yrs I've owned the car. Haven't glued any of them and they have never come loose. It's always the zipper that fails.

I have always bought mine from T Rutlands. They also use the nice small curved zipper that does not bunch up the vinyl. The big heavy zippers really dont have a good look and don't flex well.
