My '85 3.2 Coupe has a "Brake Alert" light on. As I have delved into the 'lil lovely, the fluid is new and full, the Hand Brake seems to be released, but the BPV is at an angle under the car. About 45 degrees from level. Could this cause problems? I am hesitant to drive with such a dire warning. Thoughts?

    Thanks
    Zeke (Oregon)

The brake BPV for the rear circuit (?) is not sensitive to orientation but pressure, so not relevant.
Which of the 3 warning lights is on? P, ! , ABS?

it is the front one that is crooked. The lights are on the dash,(square red) and at the front of the console (bar)

I think this first version of the 3.2 was very similarly wired than the QVs = your car has a check control?

The front unit is triggered by a pressure difference between the front and rear circuits and not sensitive to orientation.

It grounds the warning lights. It's in series with the fluid levels.

First thing to do is unplug the wires to the pressure differential unit and see if the light goes out.
Second thing unplug the wires to the fluid level sensor and see if the light goes out.

Then check both units for an internal shorts when disconnected.

Zeke is your car a US version? There are some differences there. Take some pics please.

I'm pretty sure that it it a US version. What are the areas that I should focus (pun) on?

Take a pic of your "BPV". According to the information I have, there is no pressure differential switch on the US 3.2L cars.

OK here is what I found re early US 3.2L wiring (it's not comprehensive/coherent in the manual)

    - "P" light (parking brake red square in the centre stack) is solely triggered by the handbrake lever switch creating a negative

    - "Brake Failure" light (red light in the centre stack) is triggered by the check control ecu in case of: 1) low brake fluid levels, 2) worn front brake pads 3) with ignition on POS 2 and 3 without engine running (ign. ON, and during starting for ex., to test the bulb) 4) whenever the alternator warning light is ON (if the light comes with engine running > most likely an alternator issue, not a brake problem)

    - the check control "spia freni" light is triggered by a failure of the brake failure warning light ("!") in the centre stack (= not indicating a brake performance issue)

This tells you that your coolant level is low and that at least one of the bonnets or filler flap is open. It also indicates that the brake warning light is working (which it is as it's lit up in the dash):

The red bar is always on when an item checks negative that stops you from driving safely:

So, the check control system to me seems to work correctly.

That's not a 3.2L, but a US-spec quattrovalvole. That explains why there is pressure differential switch.

    Unplug the

    1) the front pads
    2) the fluid level sensor
    3) differential pressure switch

and see which one triggers the warning light.

    If the light stays on
    - there is a ground connection somewhere in the circuit, or
    - the check control ecu has a problem
