Overcast here, not a lot of rain, and about 10 knots of wind. The authorities close everything to make sure we are (and I'll use the magic word here) "safe". Don't go to work chicken little, you're all made of sugar! So where do they all go, you guessed it, the beach. Put yourself in a real stupid position and stand at sea level on a rock wall with massive waves heading your way. Have you seen seen of these muppet's on TV, natural attrition at work.
Indeed. The really annoying bit is that emergency workers then have to put their lives at risk rescuing these absolute morons. They’ve already rescued some peanut on a JetSki, a few surfers, and a bunch of numpties in kayaks. If it was up to me I’d leave them to their fate.
Wave Rider Buoy at Southport Seaway measured 12.1 m yesterday. I had a look at Point Danger and the waves were bloody big - 6m or so. Easy to believe a freak wave out to sea would double that.
Coolum on Wed had monster waves breaking probably 500m offshore; today nothing except a nasty dumping edge break... We don't seem to have lost much sand at all... Commiserations to Gold Coast and NSW folks, looks like you're going to cop it all (unless it shifts again...) Edit: that's a 76 year old mate coming back from his 2nd surf of the day with his fins in hand! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just outside my front gate. Two more bigger ones 200m and 250m down the road that took out power lines. I'm not going anywhere for a while Image Unavailable, Please Login
A couple of locals had some chainsaws and cleared them. I got up this morning with my little Ryobi reciprocating saw and cleared enough of the closest one to get by. My daughter got stuck behind one of the trees and had to leave her car there. Anotherjob for Dad. Still shjtty weather.. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
