no argument on the 550's. I remember being frustrated I couldn't take down a TdF over crema that I was drooling over in early-ish 2011 as I recall....just didn't have the financial ability back then....had to sit on my cash to buy our now current house.
After the RNM on C&B this car on Pcar market hit RNM again, now at $180k and has a buy it now at $235k. https://www.pcarmarket.com/auction/dealtank-2000-ferrari-550-maranello-1/ ZFFZS49A3Y0118710
They want $235K for a 550 and did not even bother to get a full set of fobs? Or fix the leather on the airbag?
Today on BaT we had a "clone" of @otoupalik https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1999-ferrari-550-maranello-48/#comments-anchor So strange that the end of this auction was just "crickets" for a few days before the finish line. This car was historically sold here on Fchat by our friend @tiara4300 https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/1999-550-maranello.526194/#post-144778508 SOLD 1999 550 for $180k Grigio Titanio over nero ZFFZR49A7X0113343 & Assembly 30631 with 33,069 miles on an Arizona title by a dealer out of Houston TX +) X-ost exhaust +) Red brake calipers and that's it for options. Sometimes the most basic are the most attractive? +) Set of 4 HRE forged wheels accompany the car in the sale. +) Sept 2023 a major service completed, plus brake ducts replaced & headlamp gaskets. 10/23 front end PPF applied on front end. +) Tires date coded 2023 +) Auction photos pointed out what looked like some very minor cosmetics I'm not sure I have a feeling one way or the other on the hammer price. Driver miles on a nice and well maintained 550. What's not to like? I love it when prior owners check in on the cars when listed on BaT. ELW_Z8 I owned this car for about 18 months between April 2023 and October 2024. I probably paid too much and then had to deal with some deferred maintenance ($16k), but it was a joy to drive. I put about 4700 miles on it during my tenure with no issues whatsoever. The A/C works great but the radio (Sony) is only so-so and the CD changer only worked sometimes. I purchased the Becker radio included in this sale but never got around to replacing the Sony. The HRE wheels looked better to my eye than stock and there are more tire choices for 19” wheels than 18”. The car has an aftermarket exhaust from X-Ost, a company which I think no longer exists. It does sound great. There was some paintwork on the car before I got it. The driver side C pillar and the rear bumper have been resprayed. I had planned to keep the car much longer but accidentally won a V12 Vantage in an auction which I found myself enjoying a bit more than the 550. That said, i do miss the Ferrari. This is a well sorted 550 and I am sure the new owner will love it.
I am honored Timing was great on mine. The more time I have with the car, the more and more I love it.
The overall collector car market is soft in places...but the best of the best still command good money...if not top dollar. Here's the link to the car specs: https://www.goodingco.com/lot/1998-ferrari-550-maranello-1/ Interesting that the "all in" price was $179,200, while I watched the winning bid being placed for $160K. That means $19,200 in cost of sale to the buyer. Insane! Makes BaT look better than ever...
Looking at it another way, just short of $180K is not so out of line for a 550 with 23K miles. Perhaps a little on the low side. I would have to believe that "seasoned" auction bidders are mentally calculating their "all in" cost when bidding. Us rubes, not so much...
agreed on perhaps $180 being a tad light possibly…. Long story still long…frustrated when I went to my mechanic today and the O2 sensors were not handled. If I’m honest I was emotionally “down” because the car has been gone for so long….i had a very serious “positive lift” when the father and son that was looking at my 550 parked on a lot across from the mechanic struck up a conversation and the father (perhaps in his 80’s) noted for the last 20 YEARS has owned his 28k mile Grigio Titanio over Nero 2000 550. I work too much and play too little and that father and son b.s’d with me for the better part of 20 minutes as the father noted he was prepping the car for sale and I really did enjoy the time they spent with me. His car wasn’t present but I told him “buy the seller”! And I’d be drooling to buy a 20 year owner well maintained with a recent belt service car. He asked me what I’d ask and i said $150 to $190….but told him I regretted saying it as we could walk down to Bank of America as I’d gladly hand over $120 in cash if he was ready ;-) a few weeks back I got to meet two other 550 guys here in Palo Alto (I think one was @dodici ) at a hagerty dinner event and it’s been a lovely 2025 front on the “chatting Maranello guys up” effort so far this year!
Oh for sure. Whenever I scan BAT etc. for comps to cars for sale elsewhere I’m always doing that math.
It’s funny, I keep pricing new 911s, though the GT3 Touring and the 911 T are the only ones that really appeal to me. One build I did was $162k and the other was $265k (T/GT3 T respectively). When I look at $150-190 for a nice 550, I start to think that’s a great deal, why wouldn’t I go ahead and have two Maranellos? New car reliability and warranty are appealing, and I do LOVE 911s, but…
