I have a question for the experts. My '87 328GTS fuel pump has decided to leak like a sieve. I have decided to replace it, along with the accumulator and fuel filter. The line currently running from the tank to the fuel pump is a 5/8" line labeled as a "heater hose". Is that the correct size and use? I figured it needed a metric size. I realize that line is low pressure, but I was surprised to see that line instead of fuel injection hose. Anything I do to this car needs to be first class. Thoughts?

The size is OKish (if it fits the barbs well) -- IIRC, the stock size might be 15mm or 16mm. The "Heater Hose" part is not OK -- needs to be E10 fuel compatible.

Well, if you're going "1st Class", consider replacing your low pressure fuel hoses and vent hoses with Scuderia Rampante Inc (SRI) products. They're NOT inexpensive, but possibly the last hoses you'll have to buy. Their kits come precut to length for each application and include properly sized stainless hose clamps.

5/8 Aeroquip pushlok hose works well and so does the Earls equivalent.

I have had some scary issues using modern commercial R7 hose.

Make sure it really is the pump leaking and not the hose.

The hard metal tubing is stock; the braided flexible line is a fabricated replacement.

No problem. That stock metal line seems to often get damaged/twisted during removal. 512BBi had a similar troublesome metal line (that either was also unobtanium, at least for a while, or when the early style CIS fuel pump was unavailable that it mounted to) -- here's an example of a fabricated substitution for that one that used a 90 deg fitting and a short piece of Cohline tubing with the banjo fitting check valve on the later style CIS fuel pump (maybe from Larry Fletcher at CISFlowTech?):

Nothing probably functionally wrong with that flexible braided line solution that you posted, but I'd have to say that its routing is a bit "loopy" and long for my taste, and looks a little "stressful" where the braided line joins the banjo fitting.

You’re right Steve, the banjo fitting on the fuel pump end look like it’s bending a little too much. But it seems like a flexible high-pressure hose with the right angle banjo fitting will be better than a steel tube as it’s is more flexible. In fact this hose (pic) came out of my friends 84 QV then I checked mine, also an 84 QV and it’s exactly the same as my friend. Not sure if this is original on all 84 QV then changed to the steel tube later on the 85 QV. Image Unavailable, Please Login

Can't say that I've ever come across that "flexible" hose in any of the F documentation. Have only seen the two metal pipes, and even Fig 59 on page 67 of your 307/84 OM shows the metal pipe. Of course, anything is possible in the F world ;).

According to my 1984 parts catalog P/N 119305 is the one for my car. Thanks again Steve!

Yeah mine came apart at the weld of the eyelet. It's an expensive little piece of metal :/

Mine is a hard line to the accumulator.

It is definitely the pump. I started the car on my lift and gas came streaming out. I quickly shut it off.
