Get 'em while they're hot: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1968-ferrari-dino-206-gt-4/ Compare this rendition of Nocciola Metallizzato with the 246L on Bat--quite a difference.
I knew this car when it was yellow! Pretty sure this is the car anyway. Drove it about 20 or so years ago quite a bit. I have to say I am not a fan of the steering wheel position, just couldn't get used to it.
I don't see the logic of BaT listing a 246 L and a 206--both in Nocciola--at the same time? One or both will suffer.
I don't see the time conflict and I don't think the two cars are comparable. The 246 auction ends in 4 days, the 206 in 7 days. The 206 is the rarer of the two, and not just because of the paint color. In the end their prices should reflect this. Both claim to be the same color, but based on the photographs, the 206 is stunning, and the 246 is eehhh...brownish bronze. In my shoes, I'd be happy with the 246...any 246...and I'd drive the snot out of it. But if some generous insane person gifted me with this 206, I think every bone in my body would melt.
Agree, saw your comment rebuttaled by Seller. In Real Estate sales is popular to show the lower priced one first, then the nicest but expensive one second - a clever motivator. First will not sell, as is the extra attraction to other and will propel the second to new high prices. Would it been so much difficult for BAT to stagger 206 by one more week only? BAT must have many, many Dinos coming to market to push like this
I think you have a great point, aaaand the loser.... will be the L. Specially when the 206 (appears) to be the proper colour, and a potentially vastly better car. Only guessing as have not had time to view 800+ photos Too bad, awful timing
As pointed out, the 206 is a much different car when compared to a 246 - not considering the level of restoration or color. The buyer willing to pay the premium required for an all aluminum 206 probably isn't the same buyer that's looking for a 246. It would be a different story if one was an L and the other an E - they are more comparable models. Even then there are people that favor one over the other.
It is an L vs 206, a tough choice if both were on exactly on equal ground, and an equal quality restoration. Some prefer 206, some prefer L. Here we have a very difficult situation. Me, the 206, no question, but I do not count as an authority, as we all have different views in this particular case. On 100% equal footing, for me it is the L. Regards, Alberto
Personally, they are that far off, only my eyes, mind you. And the 206, looks a lot more like it, once again, only my eyes. Potentially, the degree of restoration quality, also affects my eyes... Regards, Alberto
From the official Ferrari numbers, the 206 weights 900 kgs and the 246 1080 kgs; so that's 180 kgs difference i.e. 397 lbs. For the 246, I have a weight of 1150 kgs tested in a magazine road test (I don't have the weight from a road test for the 206) but Ferrari's optimism in claimed weights should not have much impact on a difference between the two models.
In an Alfa GTA, with the same ally block, ally body, and lots of magnesium, about 400 +/- lbs. was the difference to a regular GT. Driven both GTA and a GT, and completely different animals. Not so with Dino, I have never driven one, but got impressed senseless in a GTS driven by a Pilot on Hwy. 1. Potentially the 206, ought to be a very different beast with a completely different polar moment of inertia, even with the 15 odd HP difference, even with the monster brass radiator. 390 +/- lbs in a Dino, ought to be pretty amazing. You would think so....
206 weighs about 2400lbs, a 246GTS weighs some 2750lbs. I can’t say I’ve put big miles on both, but I have driven both a bit. The 206 is fabulous, feels even lighter than it is, I just don’t care for the steering wheel position!
You can lower the steering shaft. Not a very well known factor, but doable in a reasonable amount. Regards, Alberto
Apologies for the last-minute extension on this auction. The @seller had a conflict with this auction close, and we wanted to ensure that they were fully available as the auction ended. We greatly appreciate your understanding and look forward to the new auction close 3/27. -BaT The auction was "extended"? Sorry I'm calling BS on this.
Maybe if they answered questions they wouldnt have had to extend it. Now they just took all of the momentum out of it.
I saw that SilverArrowsCarsLTD also bid up the flairs and chairs car fastly, looks like the desparation move or maybe they are angry of to many Dinos at once !!
I've been suspicious of their behavior in the past. This latest stunt just confirms those suspicions.
