Hamilton is probably the highest paid driver in F1, with an annual salary of around €60 million at Ferrari. Millionaire salaries often have contractual obligations and in Hamilton's case they certainly include the promotion of Ferrari models through his presence at presentations and test drives, as happened recently with the F80. Before joining Ferrari, Hamilton said the following in an interview: “The last car I bought was an AMG One, but it’s also my last supercar for the time being,” “I’d rather spend my money on art now. I’m always discovering new artists, especially great Black artists.” “Modern cars all look a bit the same. It’s a bit sad,” he continued "Instead, I'm drawn to classic cars for their distinct sound and emotional appeal, preferring them over the sleek but uniform designs of today.”

For the time being everything indicates that Hamilton will not spend his money on an F80 or any other modern supercar. However, what really matters for Ferrari is what serves its marketing better therefore I wouldn't be surprised if soon they give Hamilton a Ferrari for free with the obligation of driving it around.

All the F80 haters are going to eat their words when they see the car in person, driving around on the street, in a real spec (not Mazda minivan maroon aka rosso supercar). Once the car is driven and reviewed by competent drivers and we fully understand the performance of the powertrain and suspension, give it time, the car is over the top.

During the Montezemolo era, perhaps because he was under his supervision, Flavio Manzoni introduced stylings that were visually consistent with Ferrari's design history and heritage. In the years following Montezemolo's departure and in the models in which he no longer has had any influence, Manzoni's designs began to show less coherence and, with few exceptions, in terms of design the new models were always inferior to their predecessors. But the worst was yet to come and unfortunately it happened when Manzoni decided to definitively cut the umbilical cord with all the Pininfarina references, creating his own style that he wanted to remain for posterity. This new aeronautical and aerospace style, in some cases mixed with retro ideas, I honestly don't know where it will end but I fear the worst.

For this weekend I hope it ends w/him in P20, making it even more obvious it was a mistake to let Sainz go.

Bigger picture, the word that comes to mind is: Stellantis.

I think fchat has most likely a very traditional fashion
the vast majority of anyone remotely young isn't going to think anything about someone wearing slightly baggy jeans lol

still not a fan of the cars styling personally though, too bland imo

Spent about and hour in and around the car, absolutely loved it, it actually looks more compact in real life which was quite surprising, it photographs terribly, every time I saw a great angle I took a shot but most did not depict the reality as witness by naked eye so I stopped taking photos.

I’d call the design purposely sophisticated, it does look like it was heavily influenced by engineering and that’s what I want to see, function should take precedence and shape the object, I really liked the seating position, the way the cabin is arranged it makes you feel like you are in a single seater, I also liked the view over the top of the flat wheel but my favourite thing was when the door lifts up withe the seal and the shape of the carbon tub is fully exposed and you could literally touch the road with your hand, it made me feel as I were sited in a very special go-kart LOL, looking towards the front the tyre is fully exposed and you could see part of the inner workings of the tub connections and perhaps suspension components, a very very special vehicle and a fantastic place to be in.

I can only imagine how it would feel to drive this monster, 1000 kg of downforce, 1200HP, 0 to 200kph in 5 sec +, inboard suspension, those monster brakes, it would be an amazing experience and anyone would be absolutely blessed to be behind the wheel.

Due to all of the online negativity I was particularly curious to hear the comments of the public as they surrounded the car and I have paid particular attention to it, I did not hear anyone being negative most were in awe.

Personally I couldn’t care less about the haters, genius and art is often misunderstood, there is so much negativity in the world nowadays, everyone is an expert, the moral of the story is, unfortunately IMO, only a few will be blessed with the true experience of this machine and most are having to judge it based on the aesthetics and that’s highly subjective, most know that and unfortunately they default to their hate setting, sad life TBH.

I try to like, appreciate and respect most things, blood, sweat and tears go into all works which requires creativity, lots of risk is being taken and most artists and artisans leave themselves open to criticism in order to deliver on their craft, personally I have respect for all that and take it into consideration when I look at the object of their creation. Anyway I guess hate is an easier and cheaper emotion which does not require much effort.

To me the car is epic and very special and I believe in due course some will realise that perhaps they have spoken too soon.

The F80 has made a guest appearance at the F1 opening race of the 2025 season in Melbourne and visitors to Albert Park even had the opportunity to see the car up close as it was on display at the front of Casa Ferrari.
The F80 is one of the current jewels in Ferrari's crown and much of the marque's success has been built upon a rich heritage that is closely entwined with Formula 1 and racing. Therefore, in terms of both marketing and the brand's prestige, the connection between the technology used in road models and that developed in F1 and racing is detrimental. That connection to the world of racing is even more important in the case of the F80 as it is currently Ferrari's road model that represents the pinnacle in terms of technology and performance.
Unfortunately, in terms of both marketing and prestige, things did not go well for Ferrari at this Australian GP where it could only manage eighth and tenth places. If Ferrari had anticipated this humiliating result it would probably have postponed the appearance of the F80 to another future grand prix.

It happens a lot on modern cars. The 28mm iPhone-style camera changes the lines so most photographs don’t convey exactly what the car looks like. I imagine that because modern cars are more aero-influenced, their lines are more complex and angular, therefore when you change the angles as a 28mm does, what you see is not what you get.

I remember doing the same as you. When we first saw the car, we couldn’t photograph it anyway. I spent an hour or so with others, including @JagShergill, letting the design and the themes behind it sink in. It reminded me of 70’s endurance racers with its sloping wedge design and the four wheels flaring through the wedge. That is a familiar and, frankly, excellent basis from which to begin. Then the aero treatment is especially attractive - something of a surprise given the quantity of aero they went for - and reintroducing old themes from cars like the F40. When we spec’d ours we included a reference to the F40, which I’ve mentioned from the beginning here as a car that I think the F80 is influenced by. The TM staff fully agreed and were keen to emphasise the link.

At the launch I paid more attention to the details since this is the first hyper Ferrari we would spec and I was underwhelmed by those later mules, which obviously showed the skin of the car without disguising the lines (only the surfaces). The lasting impression that hour or so gave was overwhelmingly positive and better than I was expecting having seen many mule pictures and videos from people like Varryx. When we did the TM session for it, we got a second up-close viewing. My impression was further enhanced because I wasn’t thinking about those misleading mules. Instead, I already knew I liked it. Seeing it again, it is such an arresting design. Angular but flowing, aggressive but approachable and very much possessing that hyper Ferrari vibe. It doesn’t have a bad angle but viewed in isolation, some of the details are pretty ‘different’. The rear light and surround is a strange shape for a hyper car, the same at the front. But when all these unusually shaped pieces are put together, it all works brilliantly for me. It is already assured classic status and will influence thinking from other designers for years to come. Unfortunately for the haters, we’re going to be seeing a lot more of the F80 theme in the future. I’m good with that :)

I wouldn’t worry too much about the result. It’s the first race, some useful things were achieved. Lewis now knows about Ferrari’s ‘unusual’ strategy decisions and will be able to help that work better in the future. Charles is super-motivated and wants badly to beat Lewis (though I fear this is his Achilles heel if he wants to be world champion one day - making a daring and skilful overtake on your teammate for 8th place looks great when it comes off, stupid when it doesn’t).

I think the car is faster than its first outing would suggest but there is still a lot to bed in. Were it not for a very dubious strategy call that both drivers knew was wrong, the result would have been much better. Lewis kept it out of the wall, which Carlos didn’t manage to do with the Williams and in those conditions every driver earned every penny of their fee. I felt very sorry for Hadjar - he is a brilliant driver and has done well in lower formula. A single moment ruined an occasion he must have been waiting his whole life for. Gotta have some sympathy for that.

McLaren look to be the class of the field though. Wondering if this could be Noris’s year. Expect fireworks between him and Piastri. Should be fun!

Happy to give some basic details. I started thinking it should be red (not Rosso Supercar - it wasn’t my favourite red) because well, Ferrari, first hyper car for us etc. As time went on, I began to think ‘red with a twist’ is a better idea - I felt that doing TM means you should try and think a little differently. I thought about Rosso Dino but felt it needed to be metallic. There is a Rosso Dino metallic and we looked at other colours in the orange scale. By the time we got to the appointment we knew it would be somewhere in the yellow-orange-red scale. I hoped I might be brave enough to do orange.

Then in the TM foyer was the Giallo Tri Strato launch car. It looked utterly beguiling and beautiful. Both my wife and I could hardly take our eyes off it. I had seen the same car under the lights at the launch, alongside the red car and thought it looked good but somehow the artificial lighting didn’t do it so many favours, whereas the sunlight is not so good on the red but amazing (to our eyes) on the yellow. Also the yellow car sported a sticker livery over the wheel arches at the launch that I didn’t like. Here that had been removed.

At the spec appointment I started with the oranges but nobody else in the room felt they suited the car as much as the yellow. At TM there aren’t actually too many yellow colours. We couldn’t find exactly what we wanted - tri strato was ideal but it seemed a bit pointless to go TM and choose GTS. So we ‘invented’ a new yellow, yet to be confirmed but hopefully it all works fine.

We didn’t choose a stripe but there was another idea to further embellish part of the exterior at the rear that I thought worked great, a kind of fading paint treatment around the six vents. We also went full silver wheels because although the coloured centre is a hallmark of the car, I think it makes the wheels look smaller. I had thought that the silver wheels were a ‘standard’ aluminium spec but no, there is only one wheel spec - a carbon wheel - which can be painted however you like. I’m a bit nervous about that because I would like to drive the car a couple of thousand miles. I’m generally ok with kerbing and do it very rarely but on the odd occasion when you end up somewhere you don’t know it can just happen. If they ever brought out an alloy wheel I would change to that for street use, keeping the originals in the garage. I can already imagine the sinking feeling of touching a wheel on something - even the faintest of touches is a problem.
