The market is in freefall, the auction houses are desperately trying to maintain their facade.

I must say I find it odd that there is 5 or 6 people who just come out of the wood work willing to pay over 6 figures cash in hand (no finance) for an old niche exotic car, sight unseen, that could potentially cost tens of thousands to fix in Australia…

When I auctioned my race car there were 4 bidders. None of them real.

I couldn't really answer your question accurately. In theory, a converted car, where the conversion has been executed correctly, should drive the same. However, the mindset of a converting a car, is to save money. This is reflected in the quality of the job. In looking at many converted cars across my ramps, I have only ever seen one L to RH conversion that was almost impossible to tell. (250 GT/E #2541). The other few hundred have been junk. And they drive accordingly. Steering boxes incorrectly located, idler arms welded onto brackets in the wrong place, I've seen most of these horrors.

Take an air cooled 911, the floor is different for L and RH drive versions. And since the floor is galvanised post 1976, does that mean after you cut out the front section and weld in a new pedal box, you're going to electrolytically dip the entire bodyshell in a zinc bath? And what about the 308? The L and RH chassis are completely different. And what about the wiring loom from the dash? Central locking, handbrake mechanism, electric mirror controls and window switches?

It's an insane and ludicrous proposition. There are some people that even if a converted car drove exactly the same as a factory RH car, they would never consider it, even at a 50% haircut. I'm one of them.

The true Ferrari experience is to buy a decent car. No stories, well maintained, motivated ownership that kept up with ongoing maintenance and a model appropriate to the market to which it was delivered. Once you add saving money into the equation, your experience will head South. Quickly.

I suspect they're just heading back to where they should be. 430s are common at a production figure of about 17,000 and they've reached an age where they are too old to show off at your high school reunion, but not old enough to be considered a classic. Be interesting to know if any of the 308/355 actually sell at the asking prices.

We're only here for a short fun time Carlos

I'm glad I put a lot of kms on that 355, gave me joy on the track and lovely to look at, costs plenty to keep a car like that in perfect condition (I do have a scratch on the leading edge of the door) but if you want to play you have to pay

I hate people who buy Ferraris and then neglect their maintenance and they break down and people who know NOTHING make a comment like "Ferraris are delicate and fragile", FFS nothing could be further from the truth !!

A well looked after car that is driven on a regular basis is just as reliable as a Camry

    Yes Pap..........apparently:

The vendor had a reserve of $150k,bidding had slowed in the last couple of minutes, the vendor then dropped the reserve to $140k,the last bidder..a dealer from Tamworth, went to the $139500 .The story is then that CC contacted the vendor saying THEY will stump up the $500 to make reserve and therefore sale.
The buyer now has 7 days to pay Andrew and 21 days to collect the car.
