    Hello FerrariChat Members,

We’re excited to officially introduce our OEM-accurate reproduction carbon seats for the Ferrari 550 Maranello, now available at CarbonSeats.com as a new forum sponsor.

These seats are faithful recreations of the factory carbon seats originally produced by T.I.R. (Trasformazione Italiana Resine) — a rare and highly desirable option fitted to very few 550s during production.

    Technical Highlights:

    • Shell Construction:

Autoclave-cured full carbon fiber. Structurally identical to the original T.I.R. seats.

    • Fitment:
Designed specifically for the 550 Maranello with correct rail spacing and mounting geometry.
    Bolt-in installation without modification.

    • Seat Size:
Available in narrow size — consistent with original factory fitment.

    • Design Specifics:
Features the unique Daytona-style center insert pattern, exclusive to the 550 (not shared with 355 or F512 M).

The upper shell also differs subtly from the 355 design, and rails are wider to suit the Maranello chassis.

    • Trim & Upholstery:
Trimmed by Zanasi Group, Ferrari’s trusted partner for Classiche and Tailor Made cars.

Available in Connolly Autolux leather, just like original 550 seats — all with correct stitching and panel templates.

    How We Engineered the Reproduction
We sourced and disassembled an original 550 Maranello carbon seat to create:

    • 3D scans of the shell, foam, and frame geometry
    • CAD models of tilt/slide mechanisms and mounting brackets
    • Custom molds for both the carbon shell and seat foam
    • Upholstery patterns that match original seam placement and bolster shape
    • Accurate reproduction of the embossed Cavallino Rampante, using Zanasi’s original tooling

Every element has been reverse-engineered to factory specification.

    Historical Context:
The 550 Maranello carbon seats were a very limited factory option, visually distinct from both the 355/512M seats and the Barchetta/575M versions.

They are now nearly impossible to find on the market — and we’re proud to bring them back for restorers and purists.

    Product Options & Ordering
Each seat is made to order, with a typical build time of 30–40 days.

If you’re unsure about original trim or configuration, we can confirm your spec using your Ferrari VIN via the factory database.

Worldwide shipping is included — securely crated and fully insured.

We’ll be sharing final production photos shortly. In the meantime, feel free to message us or visit the site for more details:

    https://www.carbonseats.com/product/ferrari-550-maranello-carbon-seats/

We’re here to support restorers, collectors, and owners looking for OEM-correct quality — and we’re happy to answer any technical or historical questions you may have.

Thanks for pointing that out — you’re absolutely right, and I really appreciate the clarification.

To confirm: our 550 Maranello carbon seats are being reproduced exactly as the original factory carbon seats came — with the standard carbon 550 seat cushion pattern, not the optional Daytona style (electric) with the round perforated inserts.

The mid-section design we’re replicating is the same pattern found on factory-fitted carbon seats, produced by T.I.R., which were extremely limited in number. We’re basing everything on a complete original seat we’ve scanned and disassembled — shell, foam, rail geometry, and upholstery layout included.

Thanks for keeping the details sharp — it’s exactly this level of precision that we’re aiming to meet.

We totally respect the purist mindset — that’s actually the exact standard we’ve held ourselves to throughout this project.

All of the leather trimming and foam work is done by Zanasi Group, Ferrari’s trusted partner for Classiche and Tailor Made cars. They’re using the same embossing tools they use on original Ferrari builds to apply the Cavallino — so every detail feels as it should.

Every small detail — from the shell profile to the foam shape and stitch layout — has been reverse-engineered from genuine OEM parts. It’s been a long process, but we knew it had to be right to be worth doing.

Great point — and totally understand the concern.

To clarify: the Cavallino embossed on the headrest is done purely for authenticity, to match how the original factory carbon seats were delivered in the 550 Maranello. We’re not using the Ferrari logo in any of our branding, marketing materials, or product labeling — it’s strictly part of the seat itself, as it would have been from the factory.

We’re also not claiming any affiliation or endorsement by Ferrari S.p.A. — this is purely a passion-driven effort to provide accurate restoration parts for owners who want their cars returned to factory spec, down to the smallest detail.

Appreciate you raising it — happy to clarify anything further.

Absolutely — you’re right. Zanasi Group’s long-standing partnership with Ferrari, especially through the Classiche and Tailor Made programs, is a big part of why we chose to work with them.

Their craftsmanship and materials are second to none, and for us, having them handle the foam shaping, leather trimming was key to making sure the seats feel as close as possible to what Ferrari originally delivered.

We’re incredibly proud to collaborate with a team that shares our obsession with detail and quality.

Thank you — appreciate the kind words!
Just to clarify: the 550 seats we’ve recreated are based on the original T.I.R. design and won’t bolt directly to 575 rails, as the geometry is different

That said… we’re currently preparing to launch reproduction seats for the 575M as well

We have an original 575 carbon seat in for restoration right now, which we’ll be 3D scanning shortly to begin tooling and mold development — same process we followed for the 355 and 550.

If you’re interested in OEM-accurate 575 carbon seats, feel free to reply here or DM me. We’d love to gauge early interest and possibly open pre-production build slots for those who want to be first in line.

What is the weight of a completed seat?

Can you make such seats in a Daytona finish, which to my knowledge the original bucket seats never came in?

    Great questions — thank you!

    Weight:
The final weight of a fully trimmed seat (including rails and tilt mechanism) is very close to the original OEM carbon seat, and we’ll be publishing exact numbers once our first production sets are complete and fully assembled. They’re significantly lighter than the standard 550 seats, as expected.

    Daytona finish:
You’re right — the original T.I.R. carbon seats offered by Ferrari for the 550 Maranello did not come with a Daytona-style insert. However, if desired, we can build a set with that finish — it would be a custom trim option, as opposed to a factory-correct reproduction.

If you’d like to explore that style, I’d be happy to share a concept to see how it might look. Just let me know!

Reza -- I could have sworn i recalled a historical post by @Auraraptor did the 550 also had a "large" option for the carbon racing seats? I would guess most were the "narrow".

Not for me of course.... but asking for a "rubenesque" friend ;-)

Haha, love the “asking for a friend” angle
Yes, the 550 was offered with a “large” seat option from the factory, just like the 355. I actually have one original 550 seat labeled as “large” and one in "narrow" — and we fully measured both during development.

Interestingly, the shell dimensions are exactly the same as the narrow seat. From what we can tell, the difference seems to be in the foam padding and how it’s built up to accommodate more comfort or width.

So for now, we’re offering the narrow spec, which was by far the most common, and we’re happy to work with customers who want a bit more room via adjusted foam density or side bolster shaping.

This was exactly the case with an F50 seat that I had to rebuild.

It turned out the cases were identical, the difference was in the padding.

I had a cracked F50 seat on the upper section (narrow spec). I manage to source a complete seat but in large spec. my concern was it not being ideal to have a large and a small seat in the car, but when i stripped them to have them re-upolstered, I measured them and they were millimeter identical.

Reza, just a couple of questions...

in the photo above the adjustment rail / bar looks to have a leather cover in the same colour as the seat - are your seats the same?

the side adjustment turn knob has a Ferrari Cavalino on the black plastic - are your seats the same?

seat belt fitting - do your seats accept the standard/original 550 seat belts and do they fit the carbon seat as original in the photos above, or do I need to source different belts and anchors?

going from electric seat to manual seat - from memory there are no sensors in a standard 550 electric seat, nothing that is going to throw a seat belt waring light? I can check when next at the car, but just wondering if it was covered as part of the conversion?

    thanks
    Mark

Thanks Mark, really appreciate you sharing this, and you’re absolutely right. That car at auction is a perfect example of how much presence the carbon seats add to the 550, totally transforms the interior :D

And yes, we came to the exact same conclusion during development. We had access to both narrow and large factory carbon seats for the 550 Maranello and the 355, and after fully disassembling and measuring them, the carbon shells Large and Narrow were identical in both cases. The difference lies entirely in the foam shaping and padding, not in the structural dimensions.

    For our reproductions:
    • We’ve replicated the original seat rails, with OEM-correct geometry and finish.
    • The adjustment rail/bar is leather-wrapped, just like factory — using the same leather and color as the seat for an authentic finish.
    • The side adjustment knob is being sourced directly from Ferrari.
    • Seat belt integration: the carbon seat uses a different buckle than the standard 550. I’ve sourced the correct OEM buckle and am exploring whether a 355 or 348 buckle can work as a clean retrofit option.
    • The original electric seat plug and harness needs to be removed. The driver side buckle sensor can be plugged in to avoid warning lights; the passenger side is dont have any sensors.

We’ll also provide guidance for customers doing the full conversion, along with optional accessories where needed.

Thanks again Mark — always great to have your input in here!
