Let me guess the resin is made by a guy on FERRARI CHAT.. I forget his name but i think he lives in Australia
Except that on the road Ferrari as 296 and SF90 carbon is only used as cosmetic option for no structural parts that could be (or indeed are) plastic or fiberglass as standard, so that the strength advantage is useless and the weight advantage is marginal.
Agree - did not say it offered structural - CF 296 SF wheels do. 16M 458S every titanium / carbon part wherever possible - oil gas cap CF side skirts handles. Ferrari has backed off a lot of carbon - Scud / Stradale CF mirrors lights nice touches Scud offered a US carbon package - wish they would go back to those offerings, they sort of did in the AF for 296 SF90 - should have been more imo.
. Both parts are equally important in structural builds or components. The carbon fiber by itself cannot exist as a structure or component. Resin helps compress, support and even transfer load across the carbon fiber. How do I know this? I work with carbon fiber... yes carbon fiber itself is super cool, I agree, but to say one piece is more important than the other to build components is silly. As mentioned, they're symbiotic and both are required in the structural/component build use cases.
I think this is not exactly true, Ferrari does use some CF for structural reinforcement on these models. I think in the areas around the battery. And great point that there are CF wheels as options. I will say when Ive held the parts that you can order in CF, the CF version is considerably lighter. If you ordered the CF bits on a car, I bet you can save a few pounds of weight overall….
lol gotta admit I love CF but didn’t go crazy on my first Ferrari. The bits that I did get are taunting me though. “Welp you paid good money for us to save a few pounds. You think you might wanna drop a couple pounds here or there yourself?”
Callaway best performing Boeing Sesto Elemento ZR1 Vette - carbon forged. Decades ago Do you see bench mark factories - talking about resins ... silly.
Zero idea what your point is here. Forged carbon uses some choice of resin as well. Carbon fiber without resin is just individual strands or pieces of strong material. It's not a debate, it's just what's required to make carbon fiber components.
The same way oils aint oils , resins anit resins. The word resin is similar to just stating CAR. What car , model , colour , engine etc. If anyone believes that the resins are all the same and the same used in the Mc F1 40 years ago must be dreaming
The funny thing is that there are no carbon parts on the Challenge car this stradale versions are based off of, except for the rear wing, which is not on the road car anyway. It looks nice to have carbon parts but these are not crucial parts.
If anyone believes "resin" has ever been mentioned in Ferrari marketing - they must be dreaming. Love geeking out on parts and engineering - resins are the interchangeable cog - beauty is in the carbon weave tint designs and the skills to install. My point was only to say "carbon" while expensive is worth the price vs plastic. That's all!
Quick question. These allocations that came out, are these for the entire production run or just year 1?
just for first year production. car companies almost never (because they can't) predecide exactly how many cars to make since demand dictates supply. and that is how they make money. it is widely believed that they will take regular orders via deposit. but it'll take you longer to get one if you have never bought a ferrari. (of course if demand stays strong and no attrition in the wait list then you might not be able to get order one and have to buy used.
