Because it is winter I thought it would be appropriate to share this photo.

My driveway in 1985 and I had owned my Dino 11 years.

I drove both cars in the winter but the '85 "Turbo Look-491 "was my daily.

I still own my Dino--the Porsche was pretty boring but had adequate heat.

Rob Walker also had #02524, an E series in Bianco Polo Park 20-W-152 with Blu 135 Skai vinyl which had the same registration "ROB 2" so presumably it replaced #01892.

Rosso Rubino 106-R-83 with Beige VM 3218 is a super color for a Dino.

I picked this Dino up around 25 years ago from a gentleman form South Carolina. I believe that prior to that the car was mostly in the Atlanta area.
Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

    Question:
How is it that 04040 has parallel wipers? My Dino 04124 (made later) still has the clapper-type wipers! Are the bumpers European as well? Was it changed?

There is not a clear correspondence when it come to serial number sequence and “ACTUAL” sequence.

US Spec cars have serial numbers assigned before they are constructed. Euro Spec cars follow a similar sequence, but were typically built “Before” their US sequence serial number range.

Ferrari likes to keep it fun

Easiest way to explain, I own US Spec 03930. Freeman owns Euro Spec 03932. Was mine built nose to nose with Freeman’s, mine being several feet ahead of Freeman’s? NO, NOT AT ALL.

Freeman’s Dino was actually built MANY months before my US Spec. Ferrari reserved chassis numbers for US Spec cars and built them as they did, but not in sequence.

Not that this is a clear explanation, but helps to explain why we see strange things like this.

With the new US Federal regulations effective 1/1/68, Ferrari had to get a bit creative. Late in 1967(especially November and December) the factory created many Certificates of Origin for cars destined for the USA that wouldn't be built for months. Dino production was handled in similar fashion with the creeping federal regulations in MY 1972-74. Chassis numbers were assigned(via C of O) in batches to cars yet to be built. Additionally the factory liked firm assurances that they would be paid. With the appointment of Modern Classic Motors(Bill Harrah) as the western US distributor, there were finally some deep pockets to ramp things up. Orders by Harrah of 20 to 30 cars at a clip were commonplace.

Thomas, can you also have a look for the body no. at the coolant water tank bracket....
and can you provide a picture of the lower front (below front grill)

to me the front looks like late one with round air intake - matching the parallel wipers
but not original for chassis no. #04040 / correct body no. 1043...

only possible if the car was postoned in the factory or kind of prototype for body change
    if, very special... and interesting!

#04038 GTS US-model original cross wipers with early front...
#04038 and #04040 same production date 26th of June 1972
