If this is the final look I am disappointed. I always hope the special models would look different than standard and that 296vs with the camo looks like a slightly tweaked 296GTB. I don’t see any F80 influence or anything that adds drama. Hope this is not the final build.

Looks like a 296 with some area and a different front design. That’s what I expected.

If you compare the Pista and the 488 GTB, the front and rear fascia are dramatically different. Not to mention the air scoop for the hood. From the look of the camouflaged rear, it looks more of less unchanged from the 296 GTB with the exception of the two small deflectors over the rear tail lights.

EXACLTY. Not sure where he's getting this idea. 488s had it as well. 812 comp likely has it.

I seriously doubt it. I think this is one of the earlier test cars. The newer ones have been the overly hidden/ugly trolls driving around.

That's not true for the 296, you better inform yourself. Ask the dealer. Competizione has neither, is loud enough.

Show me the text where it says it's an electronic sound module. I cannot find it.

    From Ferrari:
“We did this by creating a completely new version of the hot tube system, which draws sound from as close as possible to the combustion chambers and transmits it to the cabin. It’s like a stethoscope, enabling you to experience the beating heart of the engine.”

The patented “hot tube” has been completely redesigned for the 296 GTB and is positioned prior to the exhaust gas treatment systems so that it channels the pure sound into the cabin, further enhancing driver involvement and excitement.

    From Top Gear:
Do you think this is cheating? It’s not, everyone is at it these days. Basically there’s an extraneous loop of exhaust pipe that runs back behind the bulkhead, bringing the noise closer to your ears. And it’s good noise, since that pipe brings unfiltered gas before it’s been run through the exhaust treatment systems.

Noise is very important to the 296. This is higher pitched and more energetic than the F8 Tributo’s gruff gale-force gust. There’s a bit of turbo wastegate chatter when you lift off, but overall this does a fine impression of an especially healthy nat asp motor. Right down to the soundtrack.

I agree with you on one thing, a 296 sounds much better inside than outside.

Competizione sounds fantastic from the inside, but it sounds even better and louder from the outside. This shows that there is no sound amplification at all. Pure emotion!

I wonder why Ferrari can't make the 296 sound the same from the outside as it does from the inside.

Ask the European commissions. They're neutering car sound. Yes, a comp, as well as all of the other V12s, sound great, GPF or not. The 296 is a vast improvement to my ears over any of the turbo V8s. Much more tonal and pure, but I like that. I sold the Pista because every time I got out, I felt I was missing something, and I found it in the Speciale sound. That's just my opinion, not fact. I'm hoping this VS can capture the creamy tone of a 296 and take it to the next level. That's where I think we all can agree that we wish Ferrari would make a more friendly exhaust available. They won't, but it would be nice to have the option.

The fact that all V12s sound great is no longer entirely true. Unfortunately, a Dodici has become significantly quieter than a Competizione. But it still sounds much better than V8 and V6 cylinders.

I hope Ferrari surprises us at the end of April with a new exhaust.

296 is the first version not track version - most important you know why.
296 is equal to Comp in performance and for the price difference it can sound far better for far less. In fact someone could have a 296 296CH 296VS for the price of comp :)
296 has had its challenges but it's not from owners - mostly of the negative uninformed.

You can't compare a 296 with a Competizione. Two completely different cars, especially as a Competizione is an absolute work of art and a masterpiece in terms of gearbox.

Do you own one? And an XX? Just curious. I didn’t qualify and have never driven either. Would take a comp over XX a day, but haven’t had the choice. Won’t make that mistake again!

In today’s time, the v12 still sounds great. It’s the best we have with what we have to work with.

No, but a good friend of mine took me on a mountain pass tour, where I tested the car completely and drove half the distance behind it. That's how I know how good a Competizione sounds.

I was also extremely surprised, but if you look at the tailpipe, it's one pipe all the way to the engine. And the downshifts are from another planet.

It's also affordable, Competizione is in a different league.
