Call me crazy butt.... I just bought a non running 2007 F430 for 40K. Cosmetically the car is near perfect. Paint, wheels, interior, leather, carpet are all SPECTACULAR. However, The previous owner go so frustrated with the car that he put it up for sale for no reserve auction. Here's the current state of things. Any help is much appreciated. Brand new fully charged battery Ignition on and F1 pump primes and stops. (does seem like it takes a little extra time to me) Check OK light appears on dash No other dash lights. The car has an immobilizer delete on the ECUs (immobilizer fault shows on scan but I imagine that is because of the delete) I crank the car and engine turns free and fast. No fire Go back to scanner and these codes appear. RIGHT ECU P0340 Right timing sensor circuit P0365 Camshaft Position sensor B ciruit signal P1570 Immobilizer fault LEFT ECU P0385 Engine speed sensor B fault P1570 Immobilizer fault Is there a fuse that controls the engine timing circuit? Perhaps a relay? Any other ideas what may cause this? Would these codes cause a no-start? Is it typical to have a Immobilizer fault after an ECU immobilizer delete? What would you check next? THANKS SO MUCH GUYS!!!
40K for a 2007 F430..? "I crank the car and engine turns free and fast" ..did you do a compression test.? Fuel pressure-measured with a gauge Injector pulse-? Node light at injectors Ignition coils and plugs-do we have spark? Above are just basic inspections but will be a good start..No pun intended
LOL all puns openly encouraged!!!! I am well aware of what a crazy proposition this is. I have not checked the compression, fuel pressure, injectors or spark yet. I will this evening. What is Node light at injectors?
Node light plugs into injector harness going to injector, when cranking it will light up if power/signal is active. https://www.amazon.com/DPTOOL-Injector-Compatible-Multec2-Replacement/dp/B09N78TDJR/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2TC0HW9DXO17D&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Y7PwLLvX9aE2UII4N9RYNBqaysMfGy4mkpf7WmKQbP6xDu9OHf384cVhINUUOIdpgCavb4jApRYKJmcHZByo_q9GxEm5zutD8ABlyYOI6JjdjVcXEv8Np---9LG1yr9iEljqUU6Zn-3cIhv0vZ8itYF_EY9E5_zGC1jykuspBeWB1iJlj1stJr5ezQCoMTCzGB3LjYDBVjnJd3kXnMnomHlsAPmLt5rG8273ufREqn4.klMRNILtmsJ-lYMta8TABWxmUHFVXzMObrEQEbnHZ1E&dib_tag=se&keywords=bosch+fuel+injector+node+lights&qid=1743429847&sprefix=bosch+fuel+injector+node+lights%2Caps%2C154&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1
I had gotten the attached code P1554, intake camshaft (bank 2) control signal circuit after I had some significant maintenance done on the engine and drove it 150 miles back home. The shop manager told me this, "I talked with Dyllan and he said that is a common problem with those engines in the Ferrari and the Maserati. It is a matter of oil getting into the connector and it would not show until you drive it a distance and the oil warms up. The easy fix is if you can get to the connector and check to see if it has oil on it if so, wipe it out." I took it back to them and 'Dyllan' told me it was due to the oil being overfilled on the previous year's fluids change. I hope this helps. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Upon further investigation fuel pressure is normal but I did find this plug undone just under the intake manifold. Could this be the cam shaft sensor plug??? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
What a deal!...maybe On surface sounds like a good buy. I would have bought it too but made a racecar out of it.
i would probably just swap in another F430 motor for like 20-25K, its still a steal at that pricepoint and it probably beats having to search for whatever the issue was, and gives you a nice motor to build a coffee table out of, or take your time to find out what the issues are and then have a spare engine... I would of bought the car aswell at that price, looks like steal, and otherwise if it doesnt work out you can always part it out and get atleast your money back by the looks of it.
Looks like a fantastic deal if you are going to work on it yourself. Not sure what the connector is but the cam sensor has 3 pins, that has 2. Could be worth ringing the local Ferrari dealer closest to where the car was last registered with the VIN number and asking about service history.
ok guys, first off thanks for all the help so far. Last night I was able to get down to the right side cam shaft sensor connections, disconnect them and inspect. The exhaust connection had wicked up some oil and was some what dirty. I cleaned it really good and let it dry and then re assembled it. Turned the ignition back on, cranked the engine and and rescanned the car. The right side cam sensor codes went away and did not come back after cranking. The left speed sensor error did not go away after cleaning. I tested the power supply and it looks good and I tested the ground and it looks good. I don't have a wave form tester so I am not sure if the square wave looks correct or not. I am thinking that the left camshaft sensor must be bad. Would the left camshaft sensor cause the car not to fire?
Did you by chance look inside the engine plenums to make sure there is not pooled oil inside there? This is likely where the oil came from that you cleaned out. If there is, that is going to continue to gum up the works as they say. Also, I was told that this pooled oil could cause your catalytic converters to get oily, forcing other errors and the need to replace.
1st first congrats on the car!!! As others mentioned, if you took it in for brand new motor installed by a pro or even Ferrari, you'd come out on top. Good luck with sorting it out!
@jdfenn : Why not take the car to a good and experienced professional and have them evaluate what it would take to get it running? Car looks nice.
I would personally be suspicious of the immobilizer delete. As Flyingbrick mentioned above, is the ignition system working? That is where I would focus first. Good luck!
Engines need Air Spark Fuel Compression Timing Check all 5 of those before you start throwing parts at it.
