Just to be clear, RL sold the F50 in 2003... This car is very far removed from the ins & outs of his collection and this sale is in no way an indication that he is selling his collection. And couldn't manage to clean up the dash... Guys, you've tied up the car for 4 months. I realize the want for publicity, but you have a few days to make the car more presentable.
Prancing 12 come on, you get a free accordian with your F50 dash. What is your thoughts on leaving the carbon fiber dash panel or fix it?
Too many Christians replying hahaha IMO, the carbon could / should be rectified as well, but the dash is more egregious and a relatively straightforward fix that should've been done before launching the car for sale.
To the best of my knowledge, this is the first yellow F50 at public auction in over a decade. RMS did offer one in sealed bid format in 2023. Why is this color so rare on F50s? Did Ferrari actively discourage F50 buyers from straying away from Rosso Corsa? Giallo Modena was hardly an unpopular Ferrari color in 1995 otherwise.
So rare? A total of 31 units were originally painted "Giallo Modena Fer 102". That's almost ten percent of the total production and the second most popular color on F50's. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
For US F50s...2 of 55, assuming RM's stated figures are correct. And I still consider 31/377 = 8% to be rare! Particularly for a mainstay Ferrari color. Did Ferrari make it 'difficult' to get non-Rosso Corsa colors on the F50 or were clients just in the mindset that their F50 needed to be red because every F40 and 288 GTO was?
I think on the contrary. Ferrari finally let people pick more colors yet most still went with red. Shows you how popular it was/is.
I've often wondered this. My theory was that the era of "resale red" was still fresh in people's minds and that - yes - the 288 and F40 both only came in red, so the majority of original buyers stuck with the tried-and-true formula. Another peculiarity is why two shades of red and not something more different, like a blue? Don't get me wrong; I think Barchetta looks stunning on the F50, but often in photos, it's hard to distinguish between the two shades without knowing if it's a matter of lighting or editing...
