I have a problem that I need some assistance in understanding and resolving.

When the car is warm I can hear a rattling noise at the back of the car that I believe is clutch related but I'm not certain. When the car is cold I do not hear this noise, once the car is warmed up and has had a good drive the noise occurs. If I hold the manual gearlever whilst in neutral forward or backwards gently without selecting a
    gear the noise disappears.

Any ideas what this could be please?

Have you had a look at the gear linkage under the car? Could be that there is excess wear on one of either of the silent block bushes on the linkage.

The noise you are hearing MAY be coming from the flywheel. These cars have a dual-mass flywheel that is filled with a special grease. Sometimes the grease escapes through the oring creating the need to repack the flywheel. There are many threads related to this on this site, just do a search. I believe it to be generally acceptable to have "some" noise, even after repacking with fresh grease. Most people hear it when shutting the engine off.

If gearbox mounts are worn, linkage can touch subframe. Possibly mounts only have enough give to allow this to happen when car is warm and rubber is softer?

I was thinking of this, when the engine is cold very little noise once hot it gets worse. I did repack grease about 5000 miles ago with new cutch.
