To Upgrade to a SF90 or to Stay Put

Upgrade from what?

If you're "upgrading" from an 812 CompA, then the hell to the NO.

If you're upgrading from a California T, then sure, why the hell not.

 

Once the inevitable happens with these hybrid systems, these cars will be impossible to sell.

 

I went the route of adding a 296. I never drove the SF90. The looks killed it for me. Lack of sound didn't help.

488 Spider --> SF90 = DOWNGRADE

 

I wouldn’t worry that much about the battery there’s companies popping up here and there who can replace the cells in them at a fraction of the cost of a replacement
Ie a Range Rover hybrid battery £20k
To reconditioned the cells £5 k
But your probably looking 10-15 years down the line as that’s how long these batteries should last

 

That's why you got to post in the subforum of the car you are selling and the subforum of the car you are buying. The subforum of the car you are selling will always be like "its the last of the such and such" and "future classic" and "driver involvement" and the subforum of the car you are buying will be like "it's better in every way" and "if you can't handle deprecation then you can't afford the car" and "I'm never selling this new car because its so perfect omg I love it"

 

The batteries are just one of the many things that will go bad and brick the car.

 

The market has already factored that into the price.

 

and it's nowhere near done, factoring.... i see 296's and SF90's both factoring (dropping) another 80k ish CAD within a year.... and it won't stop there.

 

I think if information is known in a saturated market (and has been known for 5 years) that its fully factored into the price so you are likely incorrect there. You may be correct in that the price may continue to decrease but that will be because of other factors (in addition to the usual deprecation of exotic cars).

 

I agree, they'll continue to decline simply because each year, they're older etc but the hybrid part that has made all hybrids and EV's drop to the floor hasn't finished affecting them yet.... just my opinion but to think a 296 is going to stay in the 400's or even 350's is very doubtful. I see them deep into the 2's before they hit the 'floor'... which is sad actually because it really is an amazing and incredible performing car-- and the same for the SF90 which is also a great car.... they'll probably steady out somewhere in the 3-350 range.

Try 296. I've owned sf90, F8 and a bunch other cars before and I'm a 296 fanboy. It's also the spiritual successor to the 488 series too imo. 296 was a major upgrade for me from F8. I had SF90 spider but it didn't do for me, felt too big etc.

 

I think they look amazing. Haven’t driven one. Saw one firesaled at $399k on fb marketplace recently - mind boggling.

I’d love to understand someone’s concept as to why the SF90 may move up, sit where it is presently, or continue to slide.

I like the SF90, would I buy one no. I'm just not a fan of hybrids. They are wicked fast but leave me feeling blah with the artificial feeling of the ride and steering feedback it's all to civilized, I need it more raw. Going crazy fast has lost it's luster on me with all the 2+ second 60 mph electric cars out there for a fraction of the price.
I'm getting smoked off the line by Model 3's in my 458 spider but the sound and hanging out the rear around corners will never get old.

If I was in your position with some cash to burn I would go bigger turbos + tune + headers exhaust and you would be faster than a Pista.
If the looks of your 488 is getting old to you than a change is the way to go.

 

True experience: hanging out in showroom while my Novitec-equipped 488 is being serviced. Sales guy tries to get me to flip to almost-new 296 on the floor. Says the engine "roars". I say ok, fire it up. Almost cried from laughing. There's nothing Novitec or anyone else can do to make the tiny (and yes, the engine bay view is pathetic!) v6 grab you by the balls the way a v8 does
