I've seen threads on these exhausts, but never comparing all 3. Has anyone heard all 3? I'm looking for the highest pitch exhaust possible. That "F1-like" sound. Baby Carrera GT. Not that concerned with loudness. Of course, I don't want obnoxious volume, but also don't mind a loud/raw sound. I'm coming from an Exige that was basically unmuffled. Drone I'm not a fan of. In videos, it seems like S-Line and IPE are pretty close in pitch and Kline is a little less high pitched? Also, is it true the S-line has "fake tips"? That 2 are just for show? I read that somewhere, but never know when info is accurate.
It would make sense that the S-line had fake tips as every other valved exhaust uses one set for the muffler side and the other set for the pass through side.
Interesting. Well, S Line has a valved option but I haven't quite figured out how it works. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm thinking it forces the air through that little muffler section which likely has a perforated pipe going straight through for when the valves are open. Doesn't seem like that would do a lot.
Check this YouTube link out for a number of different exhausts for the F430: https://tinyurl.com/F430Exhausts
They should be nearly identical. If you are hearing a difference, its likely the headers and cats which will change the sound quite a bit. The Sline, Kline and IPE are all simply straight pipes out the back woth an Xpipe in the middle. There are no chambers, no baffles, nothing in them to change the sound. The difference between them is the IPE and the Kline have the option to mute the exhaust if you push the button to close the exhaust, the Sline does not. Compare these with the 355 systems for example, the capristo and tubis have all kinds of echo chambers, baffles and can shapes to change the sound.
I've owned Kline Inconel, S-Line valved and not valved, OBX, and my factory CS exhaust, and I have said it over and over again, Kline Inconel is incredible. Light years better than S-Line in every single way IMO. I do not know about IPE, but did look into it. When I found out I could not buy it in Inconel though, I decided to pass anyways. This is on the 360 platform. F430 is going to sound different.
It works, but not quite as well as other systems. When the valves are open, the exhaust still goes through the muffler, so it is muffled significantly. Then when the valves are closed it is a little a quieter, but not much. The exhaust comes out the side of the muffler with a smaller opening and pipe. It's a slick idea and works with the non existent space that is there on the car, but it is not the same as a truly muffled and non muffled valved car.
Here’s my scud with Sline non-valved and factory cats and headers my scud with Sline non-valved and 200 cell cats. I recently added 4-1 Kline headers but do not have any good clips. another member has a similar setup with 4-1 headers, high flow cats and sline xpipe. Video below sounds very similar to my car. I’ve heard full Kline inconel system on other scuds. To MY ears, my setup with the Sline is higher pitched and a bit louder since there is not muffler.
I personally went with Fabspeed manifolds -> Capristo 250 cell cats -> Kline valved. Listening to various videos on YouTube only gets you so much (audio pick up vs. Speakers out type thing) but I personally wouldn't go any other way. It screams at the higher RPM with valves open, but also with the valves closed I can sneak out of the neighborhood at 7 a.m. and my wife even confirmed she couldn't hear me 4 houses down, short-shifting at 4500-ish. I agree in that I love the loudness, but I also genuinely like being able to flip the valves switch and not be "that guy" in the early hours headed to work.
Do the 250 cell cats increase noise? I would like more flow/performance, not noise ... I have Fabspeed headers and stock the rest; pretty loud when valves open (straight through obviously) .
Unfortunately I went from 100% stock to 100% modified all at once, so I can't really say exactly how much louder it will be for you - It absolutely increases noise level though. Super brief search suggests stock cats are around 400 cell count? So dropping to 250 will definitely get louder.
Yes they are. I think there's only two companies (question mark) that do 4-2-1 manifolds. Otherwise almost all of em are straight 4-1
I'm thinking about adding an S-Line exhaust to my Scud, can anyone comment on the loudness of the non-valved version. It's a weekend fun car so loud is not a problem unless it over the top load all the time. Thanks
at wot I didn’t think it was any louder than stock at wot. At partial throttle it was louder than stock due to the valves being closed in the stock configuration.
Does S-Line have any issues with it tho? I’m currently looking for a new setup. Just got my 430 Spider. As it stands, it has factory headers, cats & valved Capristo. I really don’t like the deep sound it creates and want to find a F1-like sound. So far been reading Fabspeed headers combined with 200 cats and S-Line really creates that sound that I’m looking for. Does anyone have any inputs on this? Does S-Line have any cracking issues? On a side note, would my capristo valved exhaust have any resale value so I can recoup some of the funds that’ll go into this setup. any input is appreciated
Highly subjective to your ears, of course... but I find the remote valve open/close button eliminates any highway cruising speed complaints I might have for drone. I still have factory headers and CATs though so add that caveat to the list.
