Look I am not talking about suppressing danger for drivers nanny style. I raced semi professionally myself and was in a Formula Ford for a magazine article Friday at Charade, the French equivalent of the Nurburgring north loop with unforgiving walls and very little runoff all along the track and the risk spiced it up.

I always say kids playing computer games/simulators would be 5 seconds a lap slower if there was real punishment for crashing...like a bag of rattlesnakes opening above their heads;-)?

Gerhard Berger once said that even F1 drivers determine how fast they are willing to go in a corner depending on numerous factors including what they might hit if they lose it.

My comment was about the mechanics' safety, they did not sign up for dangerous situations and there have been injuries in the pits before.

The point is that since you can't pass in Monaco, this Sunday, particularly during the decisive second round of pitstops, there will be a lot of pressure on the mechanics to release a car before their competitor passes by in the pitlane.

With the world watching they might under pressure take the wrong decision and a lot of legs could be mowed down...

/\/\/\....and the Monaco pits are among, if not the smallest, on the calendar.

Yah I don't see it as a big issue honestly. I disagree regarding them not signing up for danger. Why are they wearing fireproof underwear and helmets then?

It gives them an opportunity to be an even more critical part of the race. I would guess they are looking forward to it. The strategists and principals maybe not so much.

Agree with a strategy to stop within the first three laps, where you’ll be released with a better compound tire and no traffic to back you up. Push hard until you hit the back of the pack, then pit again for the last time to get free air and room to push. You don’t have to wait for a gap to come out after you pit, and avoid unsafe releases at least once for the initial stop. Both pit stops give you time to undercut your rivals, but the second stop might be a Russian Roulette of when to stop to do the same.

I guess it's a no brainer to say that whoever is leading after his second pit stop is going to win. So I still say it boils down to getting pole . . . as it always is at Monaco.
Of course more than one safety car will throw a spanner into the works.

Oh, and Oscar . . . getting pole also means doing your best to lead after the first corner. Please remember that.

He is far more consistent than Lando has been on starts and retaining the lead overall. Check his win %

The two stop rule might be a non issue altogether: Somebody will hit the armco and/or have a technical DNF and then a VSC or SC will come out and everybody pits anyway.

The real question in Monaco is always the weather. Rain would make this super interesting but the forecast is clear sunshine. At least half a chance of rain for qualifying which here matters like nowhere else, so there's that.

Not enough randomness, it should have been 3 stops minimum.
