Very interesting. Not sure if you have seen this video but it does seem to be the closest in aero concept to F1 with the T tray and heavy underbody strake usage.

This car is extremely technologically advanced and the aero is a huge part of it, the video is very interesting thank you for sharing.

So far, in terms of performance, the only possible comparisons between the F80 and the McLaren W1 are on paper, but the day will come when both cars will meet side by side on a circuit. However, after seven F1 Grand Prix, what we can see in this discipline is that McLaren has been much more competent than Ferrari, which made a fundamental design misstep with the gearbox casing and rear suspension layout of its F1s. As a result, the cars suffer from limited adjustability in how aerodynamic load is transferred to the rear tyres and this deficiency means they cannot be driven at the limit, and that triggers a domino effect that compromises overall performance.
This less positive performance by Ferrari F1 cars inevitably leads us to wonder whether the greater competence demonstrated by McLaren may not have also been extended to the W1.

Well no. Look at the 499 and the 296GT that are dominating. It's not that clear cut to say bc F1 sucks, the F80 will be slower than the W1.

F80 will eat the W1 for lunch! Suspension, brakes, aero/drag just for starters.

My son and I had a chat with Rafaele de Simone last year about the F80, just before the very first unveiling with clients in Maranello (at the end of the GTO tour).

While he recognised that his opinion would be considered as biased due to his job, he made very clear that he was absolutely, and deeply, impressed by the performance of the car.

We were told at the factory last month that first tests by the media should come out before the end of June. I do hope it’s true because I am really looking forward to non- factory reports about the driving experience in this car.

I hope it will be at least at the Valkyrie/AMG GT-one level and even more, but without the need for a factory crew to fire the engine on…

I expect it'll be quite close and dependent on the type of track. F80 has an aero and low speed traction advantage while the W1 is 300 pounds lighter with more power & significantly more torque.

Hopefully we'll get to see a proper head to head battle (without tech support from the factories).

I think he did great, I like the effect, it's almost subtle. I think it accentuates the areas of the design I see as strong and reduces those areas I see as weaker. The best part is someone else is writing the check!

I played around with the online configurator and I totally get his frustration, almost nothing in terms of spec works on this car.. I ended up with this (it’s free online lol), and I think it works well. What do you guys think about this spec?

Do you have an F80 coming? Or are you cancelling your order?

Performance wise a SF90 XX would probably dust off teh AMG One, it is a tech monster but net performance is not that impressive compared to its peers. I think Mercedes bit a bit more than they could chew with that project. Respectfully.

Not that I care for this Mercedes but no, it's not a dust-off target for the SF90 XX Stradale.

It did a sub 6:30 (!!!) lap at the Nordschleife.

    https://media.mbusa.com/releases/release-9ce9755cd9dcbb00611364b99f035b12-629090-min-mercedes-amg-one-breaks-its-own-lap-record-on-the-nurburgring-nordschleife

Here is a random laptime sampling. The circuit in question is Hockenheim. Of course, different drivers, different days ... but both drivers knew what they were doing.
    • Mercedes-AMG ONE driven by Marco Engel 1:38.56
    • Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale driven by Christian Gebhardt 1:43.47

Ferrari 296 GTB unknown 1:44.60 and SF90 XX just 1:43.47? 4,5km track. Hard to believe, but obviously a lot depends on the condition of the track.

Factory efforts (with all the weight of the manufacturer behind them) cannot be compared to magazine test.
