Not very flattering unfortunately, irrespective of that I do not believe there are many people who would ever turn down the chance to drive a 812 Comp. Interesting comment about the brakes.
So he gets smoked by a GT3, suspension is too soft, brakes are no good, and the engine too quiet. 812 Competizione che non può competere.
Very big handful. I understand what he means by the brakes not up to it as it is the same on the Ferrari's I have owned. He would have done better with better tires than those awful Pirelli's but also the suspension is too soft as well. Cool looking car for sure, great engine note but .....not a car to track with even though the name says Competizione.
I am actually quite surprised, granted I think that track is heavy on brakes in terms of two fairly high speed braking zones. At the end of the day its a road car, almost everything that makes a car better on track makes it far worse on road so there are always going to be compromises.
Then the Porsche 992 Turbo S comes....soft street car and blows it away...LOL...on the track!!! However I doubt the guys buying a 812 Comp care and do not drive it on the track.
It seems that the problems came mainly down to the road focused tyres. Triggering the ABS (brake complaints) can also be attributed to them. I would wait for further test before coming to a conclusion. It is not a dedicated track car though, that much is certain.
Road focused tyres I would expect to be able to provide a decent level of grip. What is not clear though is how many laps the car had done before this video wad done.
I wish Misha had proper track tires. The weight difference of the Comp Vs the Superfast is the smallest of any of the last seven special edition cars, less than 40kg Vs 100-200kg. And much of that is just the seats. Still, the Comp sounds so good and nice to see Misha throw it around.
Tires dont have much to do with it as much as the weight. Its a big and heavy car and the brakes are not properly sized. I tracked my turbo s with stock pirelli tires (same as the tire type in this video), had no issues with brakes. Turbo s weighs 300 lbs, has much bigger brakes, better weight distribution, you can trail brake etc. front engine cars will have corner disadvantage that penalizes sub optimal brake performance. rear brakes on the 812 is too small for the size of the car.
The difference is not that big, plus the diameter of the brakes is just one parameter; you also have thickness to take into consideration. Not to mention that the materials and the cooling are more important. Most of the times the problem with brakes is that they boil their road biased fluids and you get condensation inside the system.
The rear brakes of Turbo S is almost the size of fronts of 812, same thickness. I wouldnt call that almost same. Regardless, I did drive mine on track (nurburgring) and brakes are pretty fantastic. Not like my 992 GT3RS which is on another level but Ferrari should have put much bigger brakes to the 812 and wider tires given the size/weight of the car. Turbo S has larger tires too, larger diameter, larger contact patch but again much less weight and much smaller wheelbase too. Hard to understand Ferrari.
