The track just destroyed one car and created a very dangerous situation.

 

Im not sure I buy that, I’ve never seen a bumpy track alone break suspension like that even at places like Baltimore or San Jose where they went over train tracks.

I find it difficult to believe this current downtown Detroit layout is any better than Belle Isle.

The front straight looks like Sebring with the segmented concrete patches and manhole covers
thrown in for good measure. The track is otherwise a bumpy mess, impossibly narrow in spots
and too many kick back hairpin turns.

And, am I the only one who thinks its ironic that an event in Detroit, sponsored by Chevy is
always won by Honda-powered cars in both series?

Detroit downtown circuits, be it F1 in the eighties or Indycar now, have only projected a very negative image of the city, how stupid can they be not to understand that and improve the layout, pavement and event presentation?

 

I don't know all the particulars but something like the city of Detroit ceded control of Belle Isle to the state dept of natural resources, who promptly decided they wouldn't renew the race contract. which sucks because I thought that was one of the best temporary circuits anywhere.

Circuit RenCen is awful, dumb layout, too narrow in too many places, horrible road surface, and most of the "city" views are empty lots or run down buildings. oh, and GM is moving out of RenCen.

maybe we start a petition to go back to MIS, now that Fontana is an Amazon warehouse

Well, at least he got to keep the second place. Maybe he needs to eat a little more pasta before the next race!

This Detroit race needs to go, total disgrace.

I had no idea Fontana closed...a soulless place really. I saw it a couple of times from flights before landing at LAX. Greg Moore RIP...Gil's lap record pole is forever safe there I guess...

MIS would be great addition. One of the best races I ever saw was Juan Pablo just beating Michael there.

 

it was only a few degrees, but the extra banking at MIS made for better racing, IMO
