most of the 296's for sale are GTB's. The number of 296 GTS are pretty low, isn't it?

Ferrari Authorized Dealer site shows 93 GTS vs. 137 GTB, so not exactly low. This compares with 46 Roma Spiders and 89 SF90 Spiders.

A 2024 Ferrari 296 GTB Assetto Fiorano with MSRP of $525,227 was sold at Bring a Trailer for $384,000 on June 5, 2025 (Lot #194,844). The price for the Ferrari hybrids is dropping by what seems 15% annually (this one dropped 27%).

The same pressure is being placed on the 296 GTS.

I still believe e the 296 is a great car. The market is saying the price is too high and beating it to the correct level. Dealers holding inventory of this model may suffer losses.

I saw that car. It was a fantastic example. I was tempted to buy it- a 2nd one, but couldn’t figure a way to justify it and stay married. :)

The resale pricing/ depreciation is simply a function of supply and demand. It became too easy to play the Ferarri game- eventually there were too many flippers. Conversely it’s great to be a second hand buyer.

Ferrari put me at the back of the line- projected 4 year delivery now- saved me a lot as I purchased my almost new 296 AF $150k off. It’s good to be lucky too.

Maybe Ferarri should value the customers who keep their cars more highly?

Mine just arrived at $494 for the GTB. More than I had anticipated, but oh well. Will be fun until the SpecialeA comes.

Numbers are just really tough, this GTB is going to cost you $150k or more and the speciale is so highly priced that is probably going to depreciate too. Are we all going to line up again for the next car to take another similar hit? Makes me more convinced the business model and pricing is broken. Minor annoying things aside, the car is great, it’s just too expensive. Ferraris €180k profit per car just turns into pure depreciation.

The main thing of course is to enjoy the car which I hope you do in the best of health. Please post pics.

Yeah, won’t be pretty. I think the speciale A will do well. Not v12 well, but if it’s as good as we all hope it is.

Just my opinion but with the extreme pricing of cars I think you’re dreaming. Even cars like the F80 are ridiculously priced. There are so many more interesting cars out there for the money. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I was talking to a friend that’s been buying Ferraris for a long time and he was telling me that driving out of the dealership wiuth a new 296 you loose 100k straight away. Believe what you will, but I think Ferrari will learn the hard way that leaving nothing for their customers is unwise!

How are the prices of the sf90xx doing? Short answer is well. I don’t think I’ll lose money on a speciale A. And if I do, I’ll drive the piss out of it. As cars get more and more quiet, these things will have their day in the sun.

Ferrari does seem to be trying to work the press to boost the 296 recently. Just saw this in WSJ:

    https://www.wsj.com/lifestyle/cars/2025-ferrari-296-gts-review-b0f87b5e?mod=hp_featst_pos4

Also, they named the 296 VS after the 458 (speciale and speciale aperta) because they are hoping that some of the aura/love for the 458 (base, Speciale, and Speciale Aperta) rubs off on the 296 series to help it find more appreciation among customers (new and existing). This is a smart move btw.

It’s a total puff piece and yes, they should keep paying for those and they should keep trying to evoke emotion by using beloved names of the past, but ultimately the car will stand on its own based on how beloved it is with the Ferraristi. We’re in a phase now that we haven’t seen for several decades, where buying a new hybrid Ferrari means a hundred thousand dollar loss just for driving it off the lot and that is very different to what we’ve all been used to.

Water seeks its own level. Regular production cars have always depreciated. What happed since Covid was the exception.

The car is fantastic. Buy pre-owned, virtually unused if depreciation is heavy. Choice is yours. The 296 is a tremendous achievement.

This is very insightful. Judge the thing purely on its own merits and not its relative value. We’re not discussing stocks or the S&P here.

Beautiful. Who cares about depreciation. Enjoy the hell out of it. I took my car out last night and was parked outside of a bar. There's a concert venue next door and a girl who was waiting in line yelled "beautiful car" and flashed me as I was getting into my car. Perks of 296 ownership.

Been looking some more at the data I've been accumulating. (See my previous post) This time trying to see how color affects price. Based on all the cars I've seen listed in the last 6 months I predict the price of an 'Average' 296 GTB in each color that I've seen.

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

A couple of caveats, this is going to be affected by the MSRP of the car. Reasonable to assume that folks who aren't planning on keeping the car may get it in 'Resale Red' and go light on the options, so that may be the reason for the lower Red prices. Also keep in mind this is all based on listing price, not selling price. I think depreciation may be a more useful metric to plot here, but I'm still working on that.
