Oh, I’m sorry. Such a beautiful area! Thought about going to college there but was afraid I would never actually go to class! That’s such a shame. I started with a California but that was just to see if we could live with an Italian beauty queen. I’m 5 hours from the nearest dealership, so reliability is important. I DID pick up a 488 in order to get the 812SF, but that was also intended to see how the mid engine models do, and gave me something fun to drive while waiting for the 812. Was able to get a very early allocation. Being so far away means I get to choose the dealership and I chose the one who treated us best and have stuck with them. I understand their model, but think it hamstrings customers and disincentivizes dealerships from working harder because there is no healthy competition.
Oh gee, that would drive me crazy too. It is definitely good to have some options. I don’t think I would have stayed with the brand if my dealership experience was like that. Amazing mileage! I always buy a car thinking we will do fantastic road trips in it and it will be my one and only. But apparently, I have too many vehicles and my mileage is spread out between vehicles. And I have not been able to be away from work for much time so if we go somewhere, we usually fly because of time. Hopefully that is changing for the better soon and just maybe I can get some good miles on fun cars! And maybe you end up in Dallas or Ft. Worth (my preference of the two)! Thanks for posting the article!
I picked up a used Roma in January and loved it, saw the 12C at Sonoma and drove and asked my dealer for an allocation which they gave. No pressure from them and they gave me what I asked. I'm in California where I think the market is big, but I was pleased with no ******** to get what I asking for.
You don't have to buy from the nearest dealer, you can buy from another dealer if you call and chat with them, and easiest way to do that is to buy a pre-owned vehicle from another dealer and you'll become a "client" of that dealer. Then you can be put on that dealers list for allocations. What you cannot do is have allocations at multiple dealers, that FNA does not allow.
Love the article, I was in it to about our ff experience….I just don’t get how your dealer is treating you. Total bs. I am up north so lots of demand too but my dealer is a gem. Not all are created equal by any stretch. Not sure if another CA dealer could be a pivot but PM me if you want an intro FofSV, have a personal relationship with them now and happy to connect if it made sense.
That's the truth, especially dealers not working hard to sell a car. I've only bought 2 Ferrari's in my life but even though these cars were about the most exciting purchases outside houses for me the dealers had to be pushed to sell. None hardly call you back. For my F8 I got nowhere on the phone so I had to drive over to selling dealer 2.5hrs away to get there attention. LOL..... My local dealer doesn't even approach me to show me cars or see if I am looking to really trade and buy a different Ferrari when I stop in. Some local car friends have had the same experience with our local Ferrari dealer...they could care less. I can walk into my local dealer and walk the sales floor and not even get approached. If they had 1 good personable sale guy I know they'd sell more Ferrari's. This dealers head of service though is super cool and shows me cars. LOL
That is really wild. I can’t imagine paying employees that act like that. Funny story: In the early ‘80’s - while in college, mind you - I actually got a test drive in a 308! The dealership was awesome! Fast forward about 3 decades and I talked my wife into stopping there while on vacation with our boys. The people there were total pricks. I had to sweet talk my bride into visiting our current dealership because of that experience.
I travel for my job and if I have time and in a city and near. Ferrari dealer I stop in. Some dealers will approach me and say hello and ask if I need help but a lot, most do not.
This hasn’t been my experience. I live in SOCAL as well and I got an allocation for a 12C Spider from a dealership outside the city who sold my Pista Spider versus Bev Hills or Downtown. I was also offered an allocat This hasn’t been my experience. I live in SOCAL as well and got my 12C Spider allocation from a dealership outside the city versus Bev Hills or Ferrari Downtown which are the dealerships closest to me. I also deal a lot with a dealership in the Midwest who has offered me allocations on the 12C and 296. What was explained to me is you can’t have multiple dealerships of record, but you can go to a different preferred dealership as long as Ferrari NA is made aware that you’d like to switch. Not saying this is accurate but this is what was explained to me when I moved from my closest dealer to the Midwest dealer and Ive had no issue thus far…..
My understanding is that you have to submit a formal letter expressing your desire to change dealers? At least that is what I was told.
I have now entered the realm of 12C design fatigue. I no longer feel the design is going to age well. I’ve come full circle and now dislike certain key aspects of the exterior and interior. By not having a ‘face’ the car has no character. All living things have a face. To deny the car a face is a mistake. The rear of the car has too much emphasis on the huge single piece diffuser and exhaust surrounds. This makes the car look fat. The Delta wing in the coupe sort of works . But the strip on the spider doesn’t. It chops the rear and makes the car look odd. The interior looks like the design was done by folks who didn’t talk to each other or customers. This is why the steering wheel had to be re designed to bring back buttons and get rid of the confusion. Having a passenger screen and a central screen located just a few inches over, shows the redundancy of thought. Then not offering a more tradition passenger side of the dash for those who don’t want the passenger screen at all-well that’s just lazy. Let the owner have a more generous glove box space. More internal height since the screen isn’t chosen Simplify the user interface. Don’t hide the most important controls behind a rat-maze of sub-screens. Don’t offer options which aren’t necessary and just make the interaction a mess. (How many fan choices does one need in a small cockpit? How many heated seat gradations are needed. How many wiper speeds and auto setting are needed?)Revise the options which just don’t work. How about redesigning the coat hook at the back of the seat so that one could actually hang a sports coat on a hanger.
I guess I’ll know more in a couple of months or whenever ours gets released from the port. I have yet to see one in person and have not had to deal with the interface which I’m pretty sure will frustrate me especially in the beginning. But the interface has always been a little archaic. I wonder about the center display functionality. I much prefer the 812 weirdness to the Portofino’s center display. It seems all car makers have gone through removing all knobs and switches for basic things like temperature control etc. Most have put the most obvious back. (There can be too many buttons - remember Porsche having 50 buttons? LOL) Reminds me of how builders build homes these days. It is as if they have never tried to park a vehicle in the garage. I look at spec homes in new developments and wonder if any of these people have ever lived in a house before. Kinda like these car designers have apparently never actually driven a car and tried to adjust things while driving. But now I’m raging at the clouds. . I’m hopeful that those things will be minor annoyances and that the driving experience will make up for it.
Good points here. The one thing I will say is that the center screen, while not the most elegant design element, greatly reduces the frustrations of the UI. I get the haptics frustrate many (most!) but even with buttons you are still dealing with an ill conceived UI on the cars without a center screen (296, SF90, etc) to do basic things like adjust the seats, CarPlay, and what not. I get the clamper for physical buttons on the steering wheel, but that really is to compensate for the lack of a center touchscreen and/or other direct access "buttons" (haptic or physical) to critical functions. Case in point, you see a lot less groaning about the haptics by Roma owners than 296/SF90 owners. I have not driven and 812 but have driven an F12 and 12C. The 12C is like putting on a Superman cape. Just wish it was a bit louder!
I was so excited to acquire an early DBX707, and so frustrated with the horrible interface (10 year old Merc parts bin). Sold immediately. Newer version has a great interface. Ferrari also listened and pivoted. But early bad interface models will suffer long term.
I wonder if one day we will see a sales listing for a car of this era noting its "period correct haptic steering wheel"!!
Hahaha! Absolutely!! remember the days of cursing the overspray and bad paint jobs? Today it’s an art to recreate!!! LOL
