I have read pages of archives and spoke to one of the posters who did a great post on changing exhausts. I need to remove my rear bumper and do not have a lift. It looks like the only place i can put the jack stands (cna't ukse a ramp as I need to remove rear wheels) is on the axle very close to the back of the brake rotors. This is where he suggested, I just wanted to make sure. Any other experience here?

There are jacking points on the car as shown in pictures below. Circular aluminum pads are welded on the chassis rail from the factory. At least on the 360 Challenge they are.

Just be careful your jack clears the plastic side panel below the door when you let the car down. Depending on the minimum clearance height of your jack you may need to put some 2x4 under the tires when you lower the car, remove the jack, then roll car off the 2x4.

CW, thanks, I need to use the jacking points for the jacks though, so was thinking of using wishbone for jackstand placement. Phil just confirmed that would be ok. How do you use a floor jack and also get all the jackstands(as pictured) under the car?

For any car, where ever the suspension meets the body is a safe location for jacking and placing stands.

If you have two jacks then the easiest way is to place the jack at the rear "wing" that's goes across the rear diffuser under the car. See attached picture. "Wing" is made of aluminum and covers the rear anti-roll bar that goes across the car. Be careful to jack at the outside edge where it is bolted to the chassis rail. Make sure your jacks have pads on the saddle so as to not dent the wing. Jack evenly (ie. pump both simultaneously).

If you have only one jack then there are two methods I use.

Simple method. Cut a piece of 2x4 about 3 feet long. Center it on jack saddle and use it as a wide pad to spread out force on the floor pan. Now place the jack with the 2x4 pad under the car and line up the center of jack saddle right under the the chassis rail at the fore/aft point where the front seat screws into the floor cross member. So in essence you will be jacking up the car on the cross member. On the 360 Challenge cross member is easy to see since there is no carpet. For street car you'll just have to eye ball it. Jack up car and put 2 jack stands under car. Repeat for other side. Make sure your jack is pushed inboard enough so you clear the underside of the plastic lower door sill cover.

Complicated method if you don't have a piece of 2x4. Jack up one side at the rear jacking point. Since the whole side of the car will be lifted up, you can then place a jack stand at the front jacking point on the same side of the car. Now let the jack down. Rear will sag a bit since more weight is at the back, but you can still put a jack stand at a lower height under the rear jacking point. Now you switch to the other side and again jack up the car at the rear jacking point. Then place a jack stand at the front jacking point and gently let the jack down. Now the car will be on 3 jack stands and front will be a bit higher than the rear. Now you can place the jack at the "wing" edge as described in the two jack method and jack up the last corner to put a jack stand there.

According to F using the lower cross member (i.e. “rear wing” as CW calls it) is a no no no – at least that is what I have been told – after having seen a crashed 360 with the cross member ripped off and observing its wall thickness I can believe that – it is not designed for any other stress than keeping the left & right castings (i.e. “chassis rails as CW calls them) spaced

They way to do it (I have been told) is to remove the rear underbody and go after the left and right casting of the rear frame with the jack; i.e. the structures the suspension arms are mounted to – you can see it if you remove the wheels; the structure with the irregular ribs on it - some people even don’t remove the underbody

Procedure becomes a.) lift side of car with the rear pick-up point b.) place stands under front pick-up point (every F dealer uses these and can show you) once front is up c.) lift side at rear using casting d.) place stand under rear pick-up point

Resurrecting a thread after 20 years! I'm a proud new owner of a 2003 360 Modena. I need to raise all 4 corners of the car for a couple reasons.

I'm a bit puzzled, because of the sealed underbody situation, preventing jacking from some other location than the circular rear jack locations.

I'm hearing different reports re: jacking on the rear underwing-the outside areas--I certainly do not want to damage the car.

The above post mentioned the Ferrari-recommended technique is to first remove the rear underbody---well---isn't that difficult with the car sitting on pavement?

    :)

One of the reasons I need to raise the car is to remove the underbody panels--I need to feed a camera wire rearward from the passenger compartment to the rear license plate area. There is a technique involving pushing the wire through a grommet on the passenger side behind the passenger seat--but I need to access the bottom of the 360 to fish the cable through.

I'll also be doing fluid services in the future--so I need to figure this car out! My 308 and 328 were much easier to lift! :)

I have a couple Gator wheel ramps--I can use those to support the front end--(would probably jack the front up and place them under the tires--360 front end is super-low and could be challenging to drive up the ramps--even using leading wood spacers)

I've got 2 low-profile floor jacks and several high-quality jack stands--2 of which are the circular-pad ESCO type-perfect for the rear jack points.

I'f I could safely jack the rear and place my ESCO stands into position I'd be golden!

Any advice offered will be most welcome!

    Greg

Fairly sure there are several more threads covering 360 jacking in 360/430 section
