Miltonian, In the last picture a couple of posts back you can see the top side of the contacts. In that pic look closely and you can see several small bars running between the contacts. Those bars are spring loaded and when in the "off" position are pushed down by small posts actuated by the switch. In my case the contact on one of one of those bars was burned. I took the bar out and using a small file and some very fine sandpaper cleaned both the bar and its mating contact pad. I then temporarily clamped everything back together, plugged everything back up and cranked the car. Problem was cured. The fix is not all that hard really. The most difficult thing, aside from getting the two halves of the unit permanently back together, was pulling the wires through the housing during the removal phase. The contact pads within the switch, to my way of thinking, are way too small, smaller than the head of a straight pin. Not really big enough to carry the load expected of them. In contrast, the contacts in the ignition switch of my TR-6 are almost the size of a pencil eraser and they carry FAR less electrical load. Paul
My ignition switch got roasted, I had a short to ground (please don't ask why) and cannot even turn the key anymore. This plastic is melted, and I wonder if I can use any alternative part. Does anybody know if this part is used in a FIAT or Alfa Romeo or whatever vehicle?
If new is too expensive, how about used? https://www.ebay.com/itm/205404249171?_skw=162548+ferrari&itmmeta=01JXTQBJS3BV14E3DT24VWSV65&hash=item2fd30c1c53:g:dmIAAeSwsHln-SJ5&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA0FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1d0qwZWBx1UCjJVBDq9x5VRNLiAc7v3XaezyLIw9pPQKPN33FfiJI9PtBuuTNwPokP9TCnrHQa2nFhmHztNBrDBja7QroIUV6rr%2BwdDflu%2BVGNfLT2omQw06sM%2FwukVc%2BdT%2F9m162OdHG2cx0fkQlAZ3cRmf5yTnoy%2B2kNvQtU202lzsMTdtxLXpwHlN8OUkYOl1Ntc%2BoDzBNM8j7EmA5zqqbtUawCsNI1XlpzjBdsM%2FUP5Izhm%2BRLL0C8i67idv8M%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR9KsrtfuZQ
or a Alfa Romeo switch. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/127141856272?_skw=alfa+romeo+ignition+switch&itmmeta=01JXVZ2BXKWMTW8E09CDT0S1RH&hash=item1d9a3ec410:g:4JAAAOSwx2VoMhC2&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA4FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1eI7CGgItcMP7aybQfya%2F7uoSltf3mRvQCwUvruMCdjazkIy2mXWrOm0g%2B24hWlgHhzMoULb1bQSGVq2UG2PPmHD%2BnUpVuYjMwLxUcOFn9Dk3KKFScG8BfskPTn%2BY5Q2EYXyGHDPQzJ5mVIylopyRpBVFb8lWi1EJ12V1anFXMVBjLNY1Rkq5JRddZhTnwV%2FJ5z%2BIj5Y0UjIBEbFkiVsoIU7qOp4RvJ3P00l8rhAfwXUoShGyqfju8k%2FFs9Mf1Tc%2Bh%2F4ZXqooK92X%2BNjw7BQeTn%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4i_if_uZQ
Thanks guys, I ordered the switch from the Alfa Spider (80 - 93) + GTV6 + 75 for 70 Euros. Looks like Ferrari 162548, just the color of the wiring is different. I'll keep you updated. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Before you order the switch from the Alfa Spider (80 - 93) + GTV6 + 75 please be aware that the hardware is pretty identical to F355, but the electric switch on the backside of the lock is completely different.
Theoretically yes, but the issue is to find the correct electric switch back. The one from Alfa Spider (80 - 93) + GTV6 + 75 does not fit to F355.
So far is was able to start the car with the Alfa Romeo switch: cable coding (Alfa / Ferrari) red = red green = white black = blue / black blue = blue Image Unavailable, Please Login The strange thing is, I can start the engine, but gauges, electrical seats, roof and AC don't work. And the engine does not shut off, even if I pull the key.
Stefan, your going to have to test the connections of the ignition switch with a meter with the key in different positions, what your looking for is:- key off /out No connection First post/ detent Only 2 wires connected Running/second detent 3 wires connected Start spring back /third detent all 4 wires connected regards Jim
Jim, many thanks. If I compare your information with what I've measured at the Alfa ignition lock, this is the result: Image Unavailable, Please Login Strange, I did not find any first post (ACCY) on the Alfa ignition lock. This may explains why dashboard, AC and seats don't work while the engine is running. The question is, can I bridge RUN and ACCY to solve this issue, or do I create another problem?
Update and obviously the solution how to make the Alfa switch work: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login I bridged blue and black to supply ACCY with voltage. Image Unavailable, Please Login Engine is running, and can be shut off (that was my problem yesterday). Image Unavailable, Please Login All gauges and AC are working now. No warning lights! I think that's pretty much it. Next project: Try to repair my original F355 ignition lock with a Fiat Ducato (1994) switch.
