    Hello,

I have 2012 458 Italia. It's been running great with no problems. I washed the car yesterday and drove it back into the garage - no problems.

Today, I go to start it up, everything is fine, but as soon as I stepped on the gas pedal in reverse gear, all the system failures popped up.

I cleared all the codes and I can start the car up again just fine. I can rev the car in neutral no problems. I can put into reverse or 1st gear no problems. But again, as soon as I step on the gas in reverse or 1st and the car moves 1mm, the errors pop up.

From what I read online, when these group of errors pop up, it's usually a bad battery. I have the battery on the tender right now so I'll check again in a few hours but in those cases, the errors popped up right away when the car was started.

For me, the errors only pop up when I step on the gas pedal, so I'm thinking it might be something different?

If anyone can shed some light, that'd be great!

    Thanks!

Did some poking around. I drove the car around the block with the error to see if they'd clear up - they didn't. The car ran fine except the throttle response was terrible, it was slow to rev up, sluggish and stuck in wet mode.

When I try to clear the codes now, Right Engine ECU will not clear anymore - whereas before I drove it, all the error codes would clear.

When I check the error code, it shows P2140 - Throttle/Pedal Sensor/Switch 'E'/'F' Voltage Correlation.

I checked the live stream data and with my foot off the pedal, it's reading 3-4% and the Potentiometer 1 vs Potentiometer 2 voltages are drastically different.

I'm guessing the pots in throttle pedal are bad?

Here's the readings with my foot off the gas pedal vs full throttle. I'm not sure if both potentiometers are suppose to read the same value as a failsafe, but as you can see, with my foot off the gas pedal, one reads 0.43v and 0.76v.

And when I step on the pedal all the way down, it's 2.25v and 4.48v

I still have the battery on the tender, so I'm not ruling out a bad battery. I'll check again in the morning when it's fully charged. Hopefully, it's just a bad battery.

    Thanks!

Update - I unplugged the connector on the gas pedal, blew it out and plugged it back in, reset the codes and now everything is working normal

That was good troubleshooting. Exactly how I would have approached it. The only difference is that I would have used DeoxIT instead of blowing on the connectors. Based on the readings you got where the redundancy of the 2 pedal position sensors not matching, I'm thinking that there was definitely an issue with it. You may have fixed it by blowing on the contacts (Nintendo style), but the issue may come back. I would try De-ox it, and if your car goes into limp mode again, I would replace the throttle (I think the potentiometers are not sold separately if my memory is correct).

I'm also wondering if there is a calibration procedure that you can do for the throttle pedal (some cars have this). With these cars that are finicky with battery voltage, maybe there was a voltage drop when you started it, causing the throttle to lose its calibration? I just made that up, but just trying to think outside the box.
I change my battery every 4 years (unless it fails sooner) no matter what condition it's in, just so I don't have to go through the scare of all the Christmas tree lights, lol

Thanks for your feedback! I'll definitely give that a try, I didn't know that product existed. Is it different from the typical electrical contact cleaner?

What I find odd is the car only has 25k miles to have these gremlins... although I suppose it is 13yr old now :/

Yes, it's different from a regular cleaner (which also may be "good enough"), but I know that this stuff is supposed to be even better, and it can even reverse corrosion. As far as I know, they use this stuff on all electrical connections on cars that take on water, to prevent issues in the future. It treats the contacts, protects them, and helps improve the connection as well. It's really good stuff. The power cable on my pool cleaner looked a little funky with slight corrosion where it plugs into the transformer. So, I treated it with this spray, and the contacts look brand new now! I didn't manually clean them or touch them, I just sprayed them.
