If the groundhog hadn't been run over by a useless driver in a red car he would have beaten the stroller easily!
Ferrari says that the impact with a groundhog that derailed Lewis Hamilton’s hopes of a podium in Formula 1’s Canadian Grand Prix cost him as much as half a second per lap. Hamilton had looked on course to fight for a strong finish in Montreal after qualifying fifth and appearing to have the pace to push forward early on. But it all went wrong on lap 12 on the run down to the hairpin when he struck a groundhog that was sitting in the middle of the track. The impact, which damaged Hamilton’s floor, triggered a loss of performance that the seven-time world champion was initially unable to explain as he was not aware he had hit anything.
I think because Piastri didn't crash or have damage that effected his race. If you crash your own car then you get penalized. But you raise a good point.
whilst I agree with that and the penalty as such has been served, I'm surprised that no penalty points have been applied for clearly just driving into another. Bizarre even.
How NASCAR of F1 to finish a race with a few laps coasting around the track behind a safety car. Of course, George gets away with a clear and deliberate brake check... more curious that there was no issue with the clear violation of the distance he left from safety car. George has become one of the biggest ******* in F1 and has rapidly become very unlikeable over the past couple years since joining Merc. He just comes across as someone who needs to get his ass kicked really bad. And so Lando gets a meaningless penalty... sort of how they used to hand out to Lewis when it was clear they had to do something, but dare not effect his standing. I like Lando... I think he's pretty soft... but I like him. That move was so stupid and unnecessary and it brought the race to a pathetic end. That should have it's own penalty. These races are just getting tougher to watch.
Red Bull apparently pulled that protest when video evidence showed that Max violated the "10 car distance to the vehicle in front" rule as well. That left only the brake-check protest, which was adequately explained by the SC/yellow flag delta rule.
Poor RedBull. Thus far no upgrade has made them faster overall but here they complain to the FIA that poor Max was being targeted by others due to his points issue/race ban possibility lol. Make NO MISTAKE as RedBull would do EXACTLY the same!! Mom they arent being nice to me in the paddock! Red Bull warned FIA about rivals baiting Verstappen into F1 ban Red Bull sought out Formula 1 race director Rui Marques ahead of the Canadian GP to express fears that rivals would try to goad Max Verstappen into earning a race ban
In a way, it makes me smile that George Russell has won a race. He reminds me of those old ladies from Eastern Countries, so it appeals to me as a triumph of the elders and that, is very right, Image Unavailable, Please Login

There are plenty of accidents to choose from where a driver got given penalty points but clearly it wasn't intentional.
If Max did that, he would absolutely get a penalty. Points and a race ban. So explain the difference? /
Spectrum outage in my area made me unable to record the race, nor watch it. At about 5 pm my wife found a rebroadcast and I watched all but the first 10 laps on her cell phone. I remember how we all cheered (of most of us anyway) when George stepped in for Lewis, and did a great job. And how we cheered when he continued to beat Lewis as a full time driver. Now there is this strange hate George flu going around. I was happy to see him win, and for Kimi to be so strong, and for Mercedes getting it all together and push themselves to the front. There are a lot of races left and it could become a contest between Piastri, Max, and George. The success of Mercedes was sadly a reminder of how pathetic Ferrari has become. It only took Toto's team five years to fight back to the front. Ferrari has turned their losing streak into decades of failure.
Look at today vs. the 90's, 80's 70's, 60's... Today they are ALL on the edge of the rules, and all cars look the exact same. Paint them all ONE color and I defy 95% of F1 fans to pick what car is what chassis.
VER would have done it on purpose. NOR was just incompetent. Even when HAM/BUT did similar a few years back, the conditions were much worse and HAM was quite a bit further alongside BUT.
