One of the Ferraris in Original Magnum PI

I was in Hawaii and stopped by this restaurant. Supposedly it's one of the original three Ferraris used for the show.
I have been to the home, prior to Obama buying it.
Loved this show, for the car of course.

This is another one from the show I saw in CA when I was there in May at an FCA event. The only day on record that it rained in CA was when I decided to visit.

They used way more than three

 

I don’t know about Magnum but it’s not unusual with movie cars to have beaters or modded cars and then separate from them hero cars for close ups, staging, PR needs, 2nd unit shooting on location, etc.

A lot depends on the budget and manufacturer support.

 

I didn't think a 1983 was ever used. I thought the only QV's were '84?

 

They used 83's

And you cannot tell an 84 from an 85 from looking at the exterior. I doubt the last 3-4 seasons lacked an 85 model

 

Ok..I didnt know that they used '83s. I thought it was three different model years dont quote me but I thought 79, 80, 84. I know your cant tell '84-'85 but you sure can tell an '83. Now I need to go back and watch and see if I see an '83.

I just wrote a piece on the Magnum cars for the 2025 FCA National Meet program.

 

I know they had a carb'd 308, an injected GTSi, and a QV model over the 8 seasons the show ran, but there were multiples of each used in filming and production. So probably 6-9 cars at least. Selleck talked about some of this in his recent autobiography.

Obamas didn't buy the property, it was one of their close friends. The main house was in poor condition and demolished, then the property sat empty for many years. There are a couple new mansions on the site now. They kept the old guest house where Magnum "lived" on the show (which was originally a boat house). Would be cool to see what condition that building is in nowadays. It was only used for filming scenes on the outside -- all the interior filming was done on a studio set.

 

I am leaving to go back Tuesday. If I get a chance, I will stop by the old house and see if his house is still there. It was right inside the gate, if I remember correctly.
As far as a serial number, where exactly would it be. He wouldnt let me in the car and the window was up.

 

Look down through the windshield at the top of the steering column. It is on the yellow plaque right in front of the steering wheel. It will say CHASSIS No. *XXXXX*

The ocean salt basically ate the house material over the years, and made it structurally unsafe - There was basically no way of saving it.

Being a massive Magnum p.i fan, if I were rich enough, I would have bought the property, demolished the old house and then had a new house built that was an exact replica of the old house (but using more modern, salt resistant materials) .

I'd also have red a 308 GTS QV to cruise around in

As for the car in question being one of the original Magnum p.i cars: It might be - As already mentioned, it needs the chassis number to confirm it.

There's a saying used for the 250 GTO's that can be adapted for the Magnum p.i cars though:

Of the fourteen Ferrari 308 GTS' used in Magnum p.i - Fifty still exist!"

 

I took these pics at the National Automobile Museum (The Harrah Collection) in Reno back In Jan. It's an 82 and says it's on loan from the Peterson Museum. No amount of contorting and flexing could get me close enough to get the VIN.

I would of loved to see the Estate ‘resto modded’ to what it looked like originally. I went in 2007 and spent the afternoon in the tidal pool I loved it. I have a bunch of old school photos of the house from the tidal pool if anyone is interested in seeing them I will post them. It was in poor shape particulary Magnums place.

 

The first one just sitting there casually in the restaurant?? I see a small barrier?? I'm confused, I thought loud mouth US visitors would be all over it like a rash? I know if it was here in the UK people would ram their chairs into it, lean on it, touch it or even start a fight and moan the car was in the way! Let their children eat on it and if you dare say anything they use their child as a 'get out of jail free' card! No I'm not joking.

The auto sensing turrets and snipers must be well camouflaged. It looks like a standard restaurant to me.

 

Its just a average restaurant, average food. Not sure where your stereotype comes from , but I bet Alcohol is involved with patrons that act the fool

 

Not sure which stereotype you are refering to?
However... here in the UK alcohol is not a requirement for jealousy. This type of behaviour is common. Sometimes I feel it is only made worse by other people talking to me and when I let the younger ones get in and take pics. This happened to me today for example. Actually everytime I go out.
