Another gremlin showed up earlier on the 86 328 that both heater core boxes are leaking coolant now. nobody makes replacement parts and I called a few radiator shops who do repairs and they said they cant help. What are you guys doing when these heater core boxes fail, bypass the system or is there an alternative solution?

I'm also in nyc and use Fingers Radiators in North Brunswick Township, New Jersey.

Of course you'd have to remove the heater core from the car, but they can probably do a repair or create a replacement

Early cars like yours should have brass heater cores and should be repairable. Later cars like mine are aluminum and mine had green spots all over them. I had a local radiator shop that still had real radiator repairmen and they made me a pair. Wasn't even all that expensive. That was 15 or more years ago and there are fewer real radiator shops now but there are a few, especially if you go out into farm country.

I found this company earlier and spoke to them they quoted me $700 to make me a pair and i need to send the originals. Eta 8-10 weeks.

has anyone used or heard of them? https://www.thebrassworks.net/products/ferrari-copper-heater-core

Rifledriver those cores look amazing is that company you used still around it seems this is a dying craft and so hard to find anyone who wants to do small custom work.

I have to admit that my first reaction if that occurred on my 328 would be, "Do I really need a heater?"

I'm not saying that if it occurred I would actually bypass the core from system but the thought would be my first reaction since the number of times I have needed the heater in the 17 years I have owned the car is...zero.;)

Lucky you !! in case you do not use the heater, just connect the 2 hoses from the heater core with a brass tube.

You may be surprised by the result, My heater valve was leaking, when I put in a manual valve in to block it off, I got 10 degree cooler air through the vents! 39 degree air from vintage Italian A/C is great!

I have not had them do a heater core but they did good work on a Pantera radiator and gas tank and a Ferrari radiator so a heater core should be doable.

If Ferrari was still offering them new they would be more expensive that that. Seems like in 2025 that isn't a terrible deal.
That radiator shop is gone as a result of Californias communities never ending quest to run out service/commercial living wage businesses in favor of more Starbucks locations. Community improvement don't you know.

yeah I called several radiator shops and sent photos and nobody seems to want to help so it looks like i will use those guys brassworks I found above. i just need to remove and send them the original units when I get time. What would be the best way to bypass the cores for the 10 weeks i wont have them what should I buy to do this easily under the front hood.
