IMO…unless you have an exceptionally good relationship with a store owner or get incredibly lucky any bourbon in the price range you mentioned will be above retail. There’s several really good bourbons that fall into this price range, but it’s probably going to be secondary pricing. The premium on the secondary market seems to be coming down somewhat, but it might be awhile before things get back to retail or msrp pricing.

One of our favorites and hard to get in MD. Part of Sazerac and Buffalo Trace is in there somewhere. My local shop was able to get 2 cases so I said what the hell, I’ll take both.

Oh my! Just came upon this thread from way back when.

Still have the 30 year-old Knappogue Castle Irish whiskey laid down in 1948 can you believe - over three-quarters of a century ago. I was still too young to vote!

For the hell of it I bought some Hennessy Cognac - and really didn't like it.

I have a bunch of single malt scotches, regular scotch whiskeys, nothing super-expensive,
I have a few that are $100-125, but most are in the $40-75 range.
CC, Chivas, Seagrams 7, Crowne Royale, Glenfiddich, Aberfeldy, Laphroig, and maybe 12 others
just in scotch. Jim Beam, JD, Old Bushmill's.... my bar has about 75 bottles in it.

Most of what I mix up (drinks) use Rum, Tequila, and a few use Vodka, but once you add those
into a drink like 'Rum and Coke', the quality of the Rum doesn't really matter.

I have some sipping Tequilas like Santo and the older Cabo Wabo, but I don't go whacko on price there, either.

Now that it's been established I don't spend a ton on the 'good' (read: high priced) liquors,
I tried Bulleit Bourbon - and liked it.

What other Bourbons are out there that are super-smooth but won't break my bank, ie say $40-75 for a 750ml?

I may pick up 'Michter US 1' and '1792 small batch' to try, anything else you folks may suggest?

(We finally got a 'Total Wine' here - and I've gone a little nuts lately)

And before you even say it, I've tried a 10 yr Scotch and a 25 yr Scotch - and could BARELY tell a difference,
so I won't spend $325 when I can spend $60 for what my palate thinks is the same thing.

Thanks, me too! Found a really nice spot we can rent while we either build or search for the right spot to buy, but a move in date a bit later than they want. Offered a little incentive to maybe hold it so we'll see what's what.

One more showing tomorrow morning then either heading to Aspen to try and find Valtteri who's apparently hanging out there or up to Collins to stop by Old Elk.

I retired earlier this week so getting used to a new routine.

For now we'll keep our locations the same while taking care of mom. But we're thinking about where we want to be. We love our place in Maryland but we'll get taken to the cleaners with taxes so it's out.
