Pulled out my copy of this great work this afternoon, as a holiday treat.

Nye's prose is of the pole position class, with just a soupçon of humour to add spice.....

"Columbo had been an ardent supporter of Mussolini's Fascisti, and in the immediate post-war atmosphere of recrimination and vengeance he had a hard time - being suspended by Alfa Romeo and widely vilified by many former workmates and contacts. But Mr Ferrari would never show any antipathy towards capable workers happy to support a megalomaniac dictator...."

I must find time to read the whole book.

You should! As I said before: It has been the first Ferrari book since more than 20 years which I read from the first to the very last page, line by line, because it is so well written (and that helps ignoring the many mistreated image reproductions in that book ;)).

I have had 426 standard version for a few months, bought via Motors Mania, impeccable service. Hectic times so I only had the time to leaf through two thirds of it but love it, a superb effort by Doug:). Intend to read in full when time available.

Ah, the true Christmas Spirit coming through.

A couple of decades ago I was shooting for the FIA SCC or Mango's Barmy Army as we called ourselves.

I was down at Magny-Cours's Adelaide Hairpin desperately trying to make magic when I felt a tap on the shoulder. It was this lunatic who was the French version of LAPD's finest. His V13 engine did not go so well either....

Compliments of The Season to you all

With so many brilliant books to read I have failed to catch up for a while... I just reached half of my GTO 64 book (#330), which reads like an epic novel :)

Ahem - thanks for your enduring interest - and may I wish you all a Very Happy New Year...

(And in addition to 'GTO/64', a few unsold copies of 'Inside Track' remain available)

Great service, took less than 5 days from order to arrive in eastern USA, well packaged, in perfect condition.

Now to keep hoping for the much anticipated BRM Vol 4...

A copy of the Uber leather edition is offered at the latest Automobilia Ladenburg auction. Interestingly, the lot description states that just 50 copies were produced instead of 100 as originally planned.

Hummm…not sure how I’m going to explain this at some point in the future, being number 99 of 50. lol

 Maybe, we should start to establish a register here with book numbers and see, if we get past 50 black "Uber Edition" copies ;)

    So we have already:

    No. 16 @Buchpilot / Sven
    No. 99 @Llenroc / Vern

Since probably not all owners are here, unless the count exceeds 50 (which I think is unlikely) it will be inconclusive.
Still, if only 50 copies have been bound, there should have been a very creative numbering process to have one copy with number 99.

I bought my copy early, right after the book was available and requested #99 because no. 100 had been taken at the time.
So there could have been others that requested other numbers in the range of 51 to 100. They probably produced only fifty copies but the book numbers could be anywhere in that 100 number range.

That explains it - I did not think about that, although it's actually not uncommon for publishers of limited editions to allow customers to choose their numbers.

It seems unlikely that only 50 leather bound copies exist. Doug Nye is a serious character and would not sign an edition of 100 if in reality only 50 copies were produced. It would not be unreasonable to assume that the auction house just made a mistake.
Unfortunately for the publisher (and for the buyers who paid the original price), they had to cut the price almost in half, for a lack of willing and able takers.

Indeed, that has been a very nasty and dishonest thing to do. :(:(:(

And I don't think, they "had to" do it. Does Palawan Press cut its prices for the 918 book or some other books that don't sell as well as Palawan books usually do? No! And Porter Press hasn't cut prices for their BRM special editions. They all know that they would destroy their reputation in doing so.

WOW: the Uber leatherbound copy was just sold for 2,400 euros (incl. buyer's premium) at Automobilia Ladenburg!

So, although the publisher finally threw it away like at a jumble sale, the value recovered. Happy are those, who got their copy for half the price and made a good profit. And happy are those who paid the full price as they don't seem to have lost any money.
