Lunch and dinner places for quality food?
    tried the Dolphin, very disappointing.
is hiking Waimea canyon worth the 4-5 hr round trip drive?

Used to go there often but not for several years. Loved the area but Kauai in general not a great place if great restaurants are important to you.
We generally favored a few of the places in Hanalei. Most very casual but great fish. Cannot recall name but the little place in the center up sort of towards the lighthouse was a place many locals went.

Not a hiker but the area is beautiful and unspoiled. Probably most unspoiled place in the islands. Evidently owned by the Robinson family to preserve it but they allow public access. The drive to me is one of the good parts. I love Kauai to just drive and explore the island. Many movies filmed in area because it is so unspoiled. Jurassic Park was largely filmed there.

agree to the above. we drove to see Kauai’s grand canyon. very impressive however its a 3
hr drive one way from princeville.
hiking is tough as all the trails are covered with roots.
food is just ok no fine dining.
weather has been perfect and humid as to be expected.
we made our own coffee in the condo pour over style
and found the 100% Kona coffee
disappointing. it is very weak so you need a lot of grounds for any taste and its $30/pound:eek:

You forgot about all the feral chickens.
Kauai is all about relaxing and enjoying nature. Has the best surfing in the islands not far from Princeville if you are into that.
If your idea of vacation is shopping and great restaurants its the wrong island.

Sorry to hijack the topic a bit, but did you by change ever met or knew an exotic car collector who supposedly owned some hotel/resort in Princeville (or nearby ?), but (also supposedly) kept majority of his collection in multiple locations here in the West Coast mainland?
Name just escapes me right now.
I think he passed away maybe 10 years or so ago.

Not that I am aware of but I am very familiar (hes a friend) small collector, Ferrari historian, Pebble Beach judge and author who lives there. He keeps a car or 2 in Northern California. Last I knew he kept a Lusso at home. He is very much alive. When in Princeville we usually get together and we see each other here.

While I’m pretty sure I know the gentleman you’re referring to, not the same person.
