The secondary vibration from the flat-plane crankshaft on the F430 has sufficient magnitude to crack the exhaust manifolds and the OEM tail lights. At 10,000 miles my manifolds are not cracked—yet. But the tail lights are cracked.

Unfortunately, replacing the tail lights with OEM units will result in the same failure. What's more OEM lights are BIG $$$.

So, what about Morimoto tail lights? Are they a viable alternative? And more importantly, will they resist the vibration induced failure?

    Thank you!

I'm one of those guys that like OEM only but I just want you to be aware to ask about errors that are generated by non-standard light bulbs which will end up having F1 issues... don't know if that was solved I'm sure it has been but I'm not sure

You can also get Scud Ing Swiss OEM style lights if you want something that will not break but looks original. I've been very happy with my Morimoto lights though.

Thank you for replying to my query. For the past six months or so I've been afraid to drive my F430 for fear something will break. But this past Sunday I threw caution to the wind and drove some 200 miles on a club outing. But when I returned I discovered that my left tail light was broken and my tire pressure sensors were out of whack. Good grief!

However, it's comforting to hear that the Morimoto lights are holding up better than the OEM.

So, how many miles do you have on your Morimotos?

I have a fix for the standard light fitting, worked on my 430 for 7 years. Sent me an e mail address. About £5 to fix them

I agree, once you repair the OEM ones correctly, they shouldn't crack again. I used the 3D printed repair kit from eBay, which reinforces the weak part of the design. For DIY, I have seen repairs where a new threaded bar is also used, which improves the design.

Which repair did you use? 3D printed or new threaded bar or something else?

Just lengths of threaded bar to the single pivot point , only 15 mins each and no problems. The pivot point at the bottom of the fitting is the problem.

Hi Mike, I implemented your threaded rod fix some time ago and it has held up well for the lower mounting connection.

However, the upper two mounts failed this time; see pic. It appears that the previous owner did not use sufficient epoxy to secure the upper mounts after they failed. So, I have re-glued the upper portion of the lens with gobs of JB Weld epoxy. Hopefully this repair will hold up.

I think around 5000 miles on them now.

    Thank you for that feedback.

Are there noticeable design improvements in the Morimoto lights, suggesting that they will be more reliable than the OEM design?

I had a few cracks on the 2 upper ones, just put some two part epoxy on them, and the threaded rod on the bottom one. So far its still working.

For the housing, yes. But that is a low bar to cross. For the lighting, that is to be determined but so far so good. Although incandescent bulbs burn out, they are easily replaced. The LED's are sealed so we're relying on the idea that quality components were used, otherwise the whole assembly is trash. So far so good.
