Hey everyone, I know this is an insanely weird post. But, recently my dad came across this trunk lid in a collection from a collector who unfortunately passed on. He ended out bringing this trunk lid home as he knew he recognized it from somewhere but wasn’t sure at first. Well after some research he realized that this trunk lid he took home is essentially an exact 1958 Testa Rossa 250 trunk lid. He is not very tech savvy so I am posting this for him. This was found in Washington State, we have done some research and found that give or take 20-30 years ago there was a Testa Rossa engine for sale in Seattle. I have uploaded all of the pictures he gave me, I would greatly appreciate some help identifying if this is indeed an authentic Testa Rossa trunk lid or not. Thank you everyone, let me know any questions and I will do my best to answer!! I originally posted this on Reddit and was told to come here with it. I haven’t been able to find any sort of stamping, any help locating that if it’s still there or ever was would be amazing!

You've mentioned that you couldn't find any stampings and could use guidance on where to look if there should be any.

It might also help to verify the authenticity by reporting the physical dimensions of key features. E.g. Length and width of the whole trunk lid, length and width and height of the hump, length and width of the flap opening, thickness of the sheet metal, etc.

Once you have determined whether you have an authentic Testa Rosa trunk lid or not, will you be posting it for sale?

    Thank you,
    Richard

    Hey Richard,

Absolutely! Still simply trying to figure out the best course to take to be able to get it authenticated!

    Thanks,

    Hi Tom,

I questioned that myself at first, however I looked at as many as I could online for hours on end and I noticed that some were one piece and not riveted on while others weren’t. Do you know if all of them were supposed to have the rivets?

Body parts were marked on the inside to fit a certain chassis
Body part X made for chassis Y
Body part X will not fit chassis Z or needs modifications to fit Z

Testa Rossa LHD, you need to find photos where the head rest with filler cap was not riveted on. Period photos not when restored as some cars are wrong today.

The TR58 in Ralph Lauren’s collection is 100% original parts. The ex-Frederick Gibbs car purchased right off the Chinetti stand at the New York Auto show. It’s been repainted a few times but little else done to it

Never raced at all which means it does not have a race history of course but 0734 TR is by far the most original 250 Testa Rossa because of it. There is another that is claimed to be the most original but it's dealer' incorrectness.

250 TRs I have seen have the head rest/fairing clearly riveted to the trunk lid through a lip surrounding the base of the head rest.

    Just my 2Ps worth.

I looked after #0734 for two years and have hundreds of photos somewhere. I’ll look for the rivets.

There was never such a thing as a bad day when that car was around. Many times I took it for a long drive through the countryside.
Yes P3 owned until Stanley Nowak purchased it on behalf of Ralph for $750k. At the time I thought he was nuts.

Don't really care about the wall art (my guess is it's from another type of car). I do love the dog in the early shots!
