In Midwest, having a major done at the Ferrari dealership. Quoted $18.5k for the major service - 55 hours

First time having to pay for the major (I've done belts myself in the past) - leaking camshaft seal and I didn't want to mess with the motor.

From history around here I always thought a major was around $8k. I'm sure I'm missing something, but what are the going rates that others are seeing?

Just had a major done this week, but am in CA. Pricing came out to just under $11K. Included, belts, tensioners, new water pump, engine mounts, all fluids changed, spark plugs but they also had to service transmission. Ill post more specifics later if you want.

That’s just nuts. 55 hours? That is full engine rebuild pricing. 90% of the time it’s a leaky valve cover and not cam seals. I’d use an independent shop. I’d just do it myself if it were me. These care are extremely easy to work on.

If you have it, the detail would help a lot. I’m sure you could spend 55 hours doing work on a 25 year old car, but what are they doing in that 55 hours and is it what you want them to do?

I saw a quote once for an engine out belt service on a 360, and it was not a poorly maintained car.

360 does not require engine out for a belt service and the prices quoted above seem way too high. You can also get parts from Eurospares or Ricambi for a very large saving over dealer prices. Either OEM or with the Hill Engineering uprated bearings.

Typically, a dealer is not going to accept parts you bring in, even if they are OEM parts. Part of their profit center is charging retail on parts and you'll be hard pressed to even find an Indy shop that will be OK with you bringing parts unless it's one you already have a good relationship with.

The $18k is just the major service, parts was only $~3k.

I know it's the cam seal as I just did the belts... It is a dealer, interesting the same price from the dealer in NY.

You should have seen the cost for replacing the ball joints and drop links. I would have been $35k in for a car if I asked them to buy it that would have gotten me a $70k at best price.

I need to find a new good independent here.

I doubt they would offer you $70k to buy from you…

The fact you are getting NYC prices tells you all you need to know…

100%. Interesting though that estimated hours was only 35-40 and came out to the same price, so quite the difference in labor rate even though you end in the same place.

Ferrari and for that matter most car repair costs have exploded to the upside in the US.
The Ferrari repair prices quoted in this blog seem beyond ridiculous to me.
Then again I am quite old and remember a cup of coffee being 10 cents.‍♂️

Thank god I can work on this car, these prices are insane. I am about to open a shop based on these prices, 1 job a month and I will be in good shape lol.

Positively absurd. Now that people have shown a willingness to get screwed on such a grand scale for a couple of days work they'll be charging $20,000 in a couple of months. You people are your own worst enemy.

What do you mean "you people"....:D

To the OP, that's insane. You'd be better off shipping it to an indy like @Rifledriver and getting it done. I won't assume prices, but I'm sure it would be substantially less, even with the shipping cost

Well in a dealer as a practical matter most of the mechanics will not be much older than a 360 so you are paying them to learn on your car. The senior mechanics that actually have experience will not be having their time wasted working on 20-25 year old cars. They will either be on the new ones or the vintage cars. I was shop foreman in one and thats just the way it works.
If you want an experienced mechanic on a 25 year old car they'll be found in an independent shop.

This is nuts 18k for a 360 "major" service? How on this great earth is that even possible? A "lock and swap" with new belts and rollers is a 5 hour job IF you dog it.
Valve cover gaskets and cam seals MAXIMUM 10 hours if you dog it.

Full fluid change with bumber removal to gain access to the transmission filter 3 hours. IF YOU DOG IT.

I feel bad charging 7k for the works..and that includes parts!!

My prices are going up. **** I could do one a month at 18k and not have to look at another car. I would be clearing 11k a month doing 12 hours of work..

This is not a serious thread. Some of you guys have way more money than sense. Spend some time finding a place that actually works on the specific model you are trying to get serviced. You do that by being an active ambassador of your car/brand. Get in a club, make some friends with similar cars, go to car events...learn how to get the most out of your car interests...life is short.

Are you guys in the FCA? Join your local chapter and start getting involved. You get 10% off on Ferrari dealer services with your membership.

All I can think is that these quoted prices are from places that don't really service the 360 so they are padding their numbers to learn on your dime!
