My car was apart for a few years so I haven't done a true annual since before then...I have a new filter I bought a few years ago, but the current one is coming off in pieces. Stuck in there really bad. The middle popped out so hinking of getting a bigazz bolt and threading it in to see if I can pulled it out but wanted to see if there were any other ideas...

I wonder if prior mechanic applied some sealant to that filter flange.. may need to get the flange loose.

When they get stuck, start with a tiny flathead and work it's way toward the body itself. Once a mm or so is opened up, work your way up to bigger screwdrivers. If you wedge it from the bolt hole area and not the part going into the transmission it will break.

Or save it as a drunken project for when I visit lol.

Happened to me once. I took out the drain plug then I stuck my finger in to help push it outwards and at the same time use the tiny screwdrivers up front and it worked

Haha it may very well be in the same state next month!

Holy crap. I never even though of that but it makes so much simple sense. Drain plug is out, I'll try this in the morning.

So I tried it, all I felt was the aluminum housing the filter goes into, couldn't feel the filter itself...

how about some type of hook to slide through it? And hook on the back of it. i don't remember if the back of the filter is open or closed. i think it's open.

Now I'm second-guessing myself, I'm not sure which car I did that to F430 or maserati.. Maybe try one of those dental style hooks

I like the bigazz bolt idea, honestly. Then when the screen snaps off on the way out, don't panic. Just get an expandable parts grabber and use it backwards, Contract the little arms, stick it in, then expand them inside the screen and pull it right out. I've dodged quite a few heart attacks using that tool lol.
