Thinking of getting a Pista stripe for my Grigio Silverstone F8 with yellow stitched interior.
Thinking of a thick yellow stripe and black but worried about bugs.
I could do thin yellow and thick black.
Car needs new ppf in any case.

  2. ok, explain it to me like the idiot that I am

Why are you worried about "bugs"?

You must not have owned a yellow car in the past. They attract bugs. Its something not often mentioned, but its absolutely true with flying insects that go after flowers. While its not a HUGE deal, it does indeed always have more bugs than other colors. I don't think a small strip will be an issue at all.

Not trying to make it look like a pista at all, I definately want it to look like an F8 which for me the difference is obvious. I just like the stripe on the pista hence calling it a pista stripe. Not keen on the 488 myself otherwise I would have bought one. Though I know people rave about it, it's not for me. Doesn't help your car being a different colour to mine with single black stripe. I believe Ferrari did different stripes for the F8 from factory, I have seen it done a few different ways with subtle changes. I got the idea from someone I know who has one. I think it will bring out the colour of my car. Mine is a tributo so would like to see how it looks on the roof. Not keen on the plain black which then does not come through the lower part of the bumper, which even though is only a small part I think is important so it looks like its coming through the s-duct to the front of the car.

I have seen a few different designs from factory. I like the one on the pista rather than the single colour stripe on yours. Similar to the pic below. Maybe grigio silverstone in the middle and yellow either side or black in the middle and yellow either side or vise versa to reduce the size of the yellow stripe if it avoids bugs more! I also like the thinner lines on the outer edge like the second pic below which is 7 lines of colour. Just personal preference from what I have seen.
I just want to avoid bugs on yellow.

I suppose I could just get a cheap wrap stripe from ebay, stick it on the car myself for a few weeks just to see if bugs are attracted to it. Say just on the roof and bonnet. It wont look so great but will only be temporary.

I don’t think a yellow stripe would attract enough bugs to cause a problem!
Just do what you like the look of. Any number of photoshop-/AI enthusiasts could help you preview the look, I definitely wouldn’t recommend a DIY job unless you have experience.

I've had 2 yellow cars. Yes, they definitely attract more flying bugs, but not enough for me to consider it a problem (but obviously everyone is different, and it may bother you). So, if I had to guess, a stripe shouldn't really be enough of an issue to worry about, even for people sensitive to it.
But then again, it may matter where you live, how many bugs, and the type of bugs, so who knows!

Thanks for the input David. The ppf on the vehicle needs to be replaced, I am just in the process of booking it in but there is quite a wait which gives me good time to get some video using suction cup mounts. I've used the tiny rear qtr panel windows but they are very small and awkward to position a triple suction cup mount. Looks like i'll get better shots putting them on the ppf which may cause issues with the ppf which I would like to experience also.
I can also get some cheap yellow vinyl wrap, experience the bugs and use the time to find the best colour I can if the yellow does attract bugs. I will only put it on the roof and bonnet as a test.
Then it can all be removed, ready for the new ppf and I can make my decision whether to do it or not and which colours to use for the stripes.

you asked the question. Personally I think most that see a pista stripe on an F8 will think someone tried to turn their F8 into a pista. Just get a pista if you like that esthetic better. Engine note is significantly better and the drive is significantly stepped up. No GPF. Or do something different than the pista stripe.

Lol. Its just a sticker. No real car guy cares what stripes you put on your car unless you're one of those weird purists

If it looks good to you, do it. Who cares what some jabrony on the interwebs says.

You really don't make much sense. If i wanted a pista i would have bought one! You are entitled to your opinion but you are only chasing me from a previous thread to prove a point. It's not a good look. Just be nice and leave it. I am happy for you to think whatever you like.

Indeed, you are spot on. I saw it on someones car who sent me pics and we are going to the same event on Saturday. I really liked it on his F8. I think it will bring out the colour of my car which needs the old ppf removed and new one applied so may as well get it done at the same time. I am doing it for me though I have stolen the idea.
I was just thinking about the bugs...they bug me! Thank you for your kind input.
I will get some cheap yellow wrap do the roof and bonnet to test. I can then decide what colour to get.

His is a white car with a blue stripe from factory so painted, but not a single stripe, similar to the second pic i posted with romans international on the plate.
Just had ppf done and ceramic coat a few days ago, it looks so amazing.
As my car has yellow stiching on the interior I figure a yellow stripe! Simples.

Yellow definitely attracts bugs but that's on a whole car... I don't think that just a stripe (even a wide one) will make much of a difference in bug attraction. Do it if you like it. Really no hesitation. Just do it and if you don't like it, take it off --

Chasing you from another thread? LOL you ok man? you’ve either got me confused or you’re utterly delusional to think I’m keeping track of who I’m talking to on one thread versus another the once a day I pop on here. And Apologies for the horrific insulting comment about a stripe on a car. Didn’t think it was that deep. Just an opinion.

Indeed maybe you should keep track, maybe you are just getting old, I didn't have to as it was only recent (though my memory is getting on it's not as bad as yours...yet) about the exhaust note for the F8 which you rate so badly, non-stop turn and twist. Stating I should change to a 488 Pista just because I like the stripe is deep, very deep to sell a car i appreciate to a car I don't for a stripe! You are also wrong about the factory stripe being one colour on the F8. That's some opinion as you keep pushing! I am happy with the F8 in everyway, with or without the stripe.

I am ordering some yellow wrap from the bay. Will apply it unprofessionally myself but after Saturdays event otherwise it will just be embarassing! I will keep it simple, just to test for bugs. I do get bugs where I live as I am in the sticks. David Yu also in the UK is much more wealthy than myself so he lives in a much nicer area. He is very knowledgeable though and has been a great help as many others, so it does seem a stripe may not be affected by bugs. I will go to my usual hang outs and find out though. Thank you all for your advice. I will post pics here when done in a week or two.

Thanks!!! It won't look very good but I really don't mind people making fun... a bit!
But rest assured it will not be the end result just a test, if I then decide to go ahead it will be done professionally but that wont be until September. My car is going for a service on the 31st July. When I go to collect it the ppf installer is not too far from the Ferrari dealership so I have arranged to visit him and finalise the work and pricing. I will 'install' my yellow wrap very soon after I get my car back from the Ferrari service. Hopefully around the 1st week of August.

I do appreciate your opinions and advice.

GUH I’m 45, I’m just not paying close attention to you or whom I’m talking to. Anyway congrats on the car and good luck with the yellow stripe and the bugs.
