I'm looking for a better way to lift of my cars in the garage. I have a very tight garage which makes using jacks a pain. It's also not big enough for a real lift. I'm debating installing a mid-rise inground lift, but we may be moving soon so I'm holding off for now. Quicklifts seem to be pretty popular, but I don't like how much room they take up, basically blocking the entire side of the car. Particularly for dropping the underbody shields it doesn't seem like a great solution. Storing them would also be irritating.

So I was looking around and came across these guys. Now these look pretty shoddily made so I'm not interested in them in particular, but I'm wondering why there doesn't seem to be anyone else that makes a similar concept. With 4 of them it seems like it would be perfect. Drive up a short ramp, jack the car up a foot or so, then you can work on any thing besides the wheels. If you need to work on the wheels it would be easy to drop it onto some jack stands. Am I missing some major downside?

Stability with all four wheels on those ?
    Just my first thought
Does the manufacturer say you can use four at same time

Looks like you need six inches of ground clearance to get up on them. I don’t know any sports cars that this would work for unless you built longer shallow angle approach ramps and then getting all 4 wheels up would require runways longer than the car built up to the right height with probably a removable center section that would allow you to place a set of these just in front of the rear wheels after the side rockers were far enough off the ground. You’d have over $2K invested for a less than ideal lift solution.
BendPak makes narrow version of the HD9 that might work. my math says it would just fit the 458 but 488 might be a hair to wide. Not sure which model you have

Tyre/brake/suspension work is off the table, unless you lower onto axle stands, also, as said above, I wouldn’t be too happy getting under 4 of them.

    What about something like this?

I was seriously considering one of those for my garage, before eventually opting for a full height 1-post mobile. I love it, below pic was the last engine out service I did with it on my 355. When you buy a lift, you’ll be asking yourself why you didn’t do it sooner :D

I don't think that one in particular looks very stable even just under two wheels. What I'm wondering why nobody else makes a well built one like it though. I don't see any reason why the concept is inherently unstable. Seems like it would be a great solution if there was a high quality version (that also had a lower retracted height)
Problem with all of the mid-rise scissor lift style lifts is they block the whole middle of the (Including right where the front of the engine is) car off. Doesn't even seem like there would be a way to get the underbody shield off.

A single post lift might be the way to go, I'm not sure it would fit though. I've got a two car garage, but its narrow. I don't want it in the middle as it would make my wife's car difficult to get into and I don't think it would fit on the side between the car and the wall.

Just a couple of initial thoughts , getting front and back to go up and down simultaneously at the same time could be tricky, do they have a 4 wheel model?

quickjack you get 21 inches of clearance, good for getting under, not sure how much you get there

quick Jack has a metal bar that locks the lift in place. It looks like these are held up by the hydraulic?

I know that doesn’t address your initial concern about space or convenience. Just some pros and cons

I’ve got my quickjacks on the wall and while it’s no fun hanging them up, considering how often I need to do it they’re out of the way and it’s not too bad, they do require some effort to hang though, so take that into account

Not to add too much negativity but in addition to the other comments made about stability and jacking all 4 up at the same time, I'd worry about weight capacity. When using 2, I don't think you're putting 1/2 the weight onto the jacks due to the vector. But when using all 4, you have no vector so they have to bear the full weight of the car.

Another option is to buy a heavy duty scissor lift, they can get the car up in the air about 2'.

Personally I would save my money and use it on a new 2/4 post lift at the next location, everything else has too many draw backs.

Wow…..I didn’t realize Race-ramps had gotten so expensive.

I say save your money and get a proper lift at your next house.

I'd like something that would let you work on the wheels/tires/brakes as well as the rest of the car. If they stuck a little bottle jack under each tire so you could lift it another 4 inches and then set it down on some jack stands that would be perfect.

Sometimes there’s not going to be another house. Don’t let perfect get in the way of good. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t have these ramps but I thought they looked interesting. As you pointed out more than 1/2 the price of a lift.

I have 2 sets of Quickjacks and love them...if you can open your doors in your garage just enough to get in the car, you can definitely use Quickjacks. They are not very wide.

Technically, they say you can leave them under the car, but you have to watch out for the coolant hose
