I think he is referring to the active diffuser and mini spoilers which could be inspired by 512 s model.

According to iliasabawi, the car represents more than just a mid-cycle refresh—hopefully, it will bring a significant leap in performance.

I would hope so, considering the rumors that it'll be a homage to the 499P like the SF90 Stradale was a 'homage' or whatever you'd call it, to the SF90 F1 car. With 499 GTB, 499 GTS, and 499 Speciale trademarked, a mere mid-cycle refresh would be disrespectful to the 499 moniker and its current success to say the least.

I’m on the “pre-list” either way, but a 499P homage could be really amazing. I’ll let go of the F8 for this one. :)

It will be same platform but significant modification and upgrade. Think 812 vs F12. Similar magnitude upgrade of same basic platform. The 12 Cilindri is successor to 812 AND built on an entirely new platform. 812 was radical change and upgrade of the same platform as F12. F12 was entirely new platform than the 599 it replaced. See the difference? The SF90 replacement will get a new name and will not be a SF 90M. It will be as significant a change and upgrade as you can have versus the SF 90 without an being an entirely new platform.

SF 90 replacement has nothing to do with 499 GTB OR 499 GTS and will not have any ‘moniker’ related to the 499.

Are those names reserved for another car? Also might the SF90 replacement be called 849 Testarossa since its just been trademarked by Ferrari

    1. The 499 names are definitely reserved for another car. It may be a car or group of cars that Ferrari will never decide to produce. It seems fairly obvious they wanted to reserve the POSSIBILITY to make road going 499 variants but it’s not a given that they will actually produce them. Ferrari wanted to put the 499 names ‘on the shelf’ in order to maintain the optionality and deter others from using the name.

    2. It’s NOT a silly speculation that 849 Testarossa is the name for the SF90 replacement. This is not a given but it is a plausible possibility. Here’s why:

    A. The Testarossa from the 80’s was a top of the line mid-engine regular production series car as the SF90 replacement will be.

    B. 849 COULD stand for 8 cylinder 4.9 liter. Wouldn’t THAT be something!

    C. Apparently rear of SF90 replacement is SP3 esque. The SP3 rear is 80’s Testarossa esque!

    D. Ferrari needs to make this model MUCH MUCH more special. Ferrari marketed the SF90 as a 1/3 price LaFerrari. The market saw it as an F8 with a battery pack and electric motors. The styling is messy and awkward and amorphous and not dramatic. It’s not special enough of a car over all to be the top of the line Ferrari regular series production model.

By making the styling MUCH more dramatic with its rear tail and spoilers and SP3 elements while at the same time being more modern and cohesive than the SF90 combined with a nameplate like Testarossa, this car would achieve the specialness worthy of its positioning. No matter what it’s called, this is going to be the greatest regular production model in Ferrari’s history and by a significant margin.

You all get worked up over a patented historic name, that means nothing. It was just Ferrari's way to safeguard a historical brand name.

Initially, the horizontal black banner was intended for Amalfi, but this changed very late.

Give it a few years, and they'll start selling retrofittable racoon stripe-removal bodypanels for the 12C and F80, like they're offering steering wheels with buttoms to replace those with haptics :D
