Sorry to hear, but the bright side is that you'll not feel rushed and the car will be finished properly. That's little consolation, I'm sure, but there is always next year and you'll have a fully sorted car by then with lots of shakedown miles behind the wheel.

0454 arrived at FastCars for summer prep. Lots to do including going through the car for its summer rally driving up to Monterey as well as Colorado Grand then FCA event in the fall. Looking forward to getting it dialed in and correcting some of the cosmetics such as the diamond going back to its correct imperial blue color. Can’t wait to drive the coastline in it next month.

Care to share what, if any, de-tuning/modifications has been or will be done to make the car more(?) user-friendly for leisure/non-racing type driving ? Different cams, compression, clutch, ... ?
    Just curious.

Short answer is a series ii 5 speed gearbox, carbon clutch, radial tires, and generally tuned and adjusted more towards street driving than near redline track use.

The more nuanced answer is I bought it because it’s a race car and not in spite of it. I’m fortunate to own a number of Ferrari (and other) vintage race cars and that type of driving experience is what I want. It’s coarse, noisy, purely analog, requires driver engagement, and is rewarding for its experience. I’ve already driven the car a few hundred miles and it’s exactly what I expected. The Ferrari sports racer is where it’s at. Plus, Admiral Phillips drove his 500 Mondial cross country and I’m only using it 1/3 of that for any one event so I’m sure I’ll be fine. :D

Thanks for sharing AND ENJOY THE DRIVE(S) WITH HER. :)

As a lifelong proponent of “all vintage cars, regardless of make or model, should be driven/used as intended and as much/often as possible” along with my own over ½ million miles behind the wheels of hundreds of them in past +/-45 years, I truly appreciate & respect anyone actually driving/using theirs extensively.

I also understand some de-tuning & modifications, especially compliance & safety related, are often necessary to make “racing” cars practical for road use.

And older I’ve gotten, my appreciation & interest in driving something with any amount of comfort & convenience features has waned significantly, hence my ’32 Plymouth Roadster with ’52 DeSoto V8, manual trans and absolutely no convenience or creature comforts has become my de facto favorite ride (100K miles & counting) in past 10-15 years, especially for long distance road trips, including numerous to-from Monterey Car Weeks, our ’17 honeymoon to/from Yellowstone, etc or few hour spirited Sunday morning jaunts up’n’down numerous nearby, scenic mountain roads around here every couple of weeks or so.

P.S. When I acquired & built my aforementioned Hot Rod Plymouth over 35 years, one of my childish/youthful "wet dreams", if you will, was to find and install a 4-cylinder Ferrari or prewar 6-cylinder Alfa-Romeo engine in to it.

I wanted to reach out. I am doing a rally with Luxury Rally Club (second year now) We are leaving Monday 11th from Torrance, CA area. LRC does a whole experience and maps a full route and has a lunch spot setup. We stay in Pismo Beach Monday and Tuesday and head up to Monterey itself Wednesday morning.

If you want to join the Rally I believe there is still spots available and it includes 2 night stay at the Cliffs hotel. Now if you don't want to do the full rally. I can get you discount at the Hotel next to the Cliffs called Dolphin Bay Resort. This is where I stay for the rally as well since my family is co-owners in the hotel. We do have under ground parking as well. PM I will send you my number and I would be more then happen to give you all the details and if you guys need anything.

Thank you for your kind words, but also for inadvertently making me realize the comment/statement you quoted has something that can be misinterpreted:

" ... favorite ride (100K miles & counting) in past 10-15 years, ..." should've been said something like "... favorite ride with 40K-50K miles driven in past 10-15 years (+/- 100K miles & counting in 35 years), ..."

While vast majority of people, including most so-called collectors/enthusiasts/etc are impressed by exclusivity/rarity, some (mostly impractical) performance specs/stats and/or (perceived) values of vehicles, be they modern or vintage, I've always been more interested in/impressed(?) by knowing how much/often said vehicle is getting driven/used "as intended", i.e. Don't recite me performance specs, how rare/valuable your car is or how many you have.
I want to hear about all the driving, including (long distance) trips or track events you do with her/them and how many annual/seasonal miles are accomplished with all that.

Just having buildings/warehouses/etc full of rare, 6-, 7- or 8-figure cars which are rarely, if ever, used for anything other showing them off, has never impressed me.
If anything, some just make me feel sorry for the cars.

Only a few weeks out now. Would anyone be interested in a Fchat meetup? There’s a number of us that’ll be in town so perhaps a coordinated date/time/location is in order. Taking from a concept posted in the 550/575 section this might provide a nice drive and meet up location for 4pm on Thursday 8/14 (not to be confused with the Pebble Beach located Casa Ferrari):

Ferrari will debut "Casa Ferrari Carmel" during California's Monterey Car Week and Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Wednesday August 12th to Sunday August 16th. Injecting Maranello flavor and history to Monterey Car Week, Casa Ferrari Carmel will mark the epicenter of the Prancing Horse for the long weekend. Situated perfectly in the Carmel Highlands on Route 1, Casa Ferrari, will strike a chord for Ferraristi familiar with Enzo Ferrari's historic home at the Fiorano test circuit.

    Featured will be:
    • The full range of modern Ferraris including the brand-new 488 GTB, the stunning F12berlinetta, and the FF and California T Grand Tourers.
    • The Piazza which features a different iconic model from Ferrari's storied history for public viewing each day.
    • The Pit Stop which offers a vintage full-service gas station with retro-uniformed attendants.
    • The Ferrari General Store where select Ferrari merchandise will be available.
    • Casa Enzo and Caffé Ferrari, where Ferrari owners are invited to enjoy espresso by Bologna-based Filicori Zecchini, and an Italian gelato by Grom.
    • California T ride and drives available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Casa Ferrari Carmel will be open from 9am-6pm Wednesday, August 12, to Sunday, August 16.

Surely this is old right? This year the 12th is a Tuesday and the 16th is a Saturday. And I thought they did away with the Casa Ferrari on HWY 1 years ago. Not to mention none of the cars listed are new models

Yes, I commented about this error on other threads and forgot this one. The remote location was temporary and I should have checked the dates rather than just listing the info as taken from the 456/550/575 forum. It appears the SF link is at least several years old so no meet up there.

anyone have an idea for a meetup since CF is out?

Also, if anyone is looking for Concorso Italiano passes, I have a car spot that I am not going to use. The kid wants to go to EOB instead.

First time going this year. Bought a package through indigo group which now owns FofSV. Is access to casa Ferrari open to everyone or is there a portion that is dealer invite only. Have the ? In to my contact but haven’t heard back and strange note went out about specific passes for the event.

Casa Ferrari show field is open to the public and free to see. If you want access to the food, drink, and entertainment part of Casa which is cordoned off with security you’ll need a Casa pass for access.

Meetup would be cool, a good spot to do so imo around 4pm on the 14th would be Mid Carmel Valley Shopping Center. Baja Cantina, only a few miles away, will be hosting an event around this time as well. Also, this also puts us a couple miles away from the Laureles Grade if anyone would want to go on a short but fun drive. I will be showing my car at Concours Carmel that day but that event end around 4pm.

Beware that the intersection of Carmel Valley Road and Laureles Grade is under construction (a roundabout is being installed). Currently, there is a stoplight installed for traffic control, with no left turn lane for eastbound CVR traffic wanting to turn onto Laureles, resulting in very long backups during rush hour behind cars turning left that have to wait for gaps in oncoming westbound CVR traffic. The frustration has already been raised to County officials, so we'll see what interim measures are adopted.
