With large tyres and diffusers, there is cure to spray; "lifting" can be as dangerous than driving blind.
Several accidents occured caused by spray.
Visibility was so poor that Pironi rammed Prost at Hockenheim; that ended his career.
Even Senna was caught by spray and rammed a car once, losing the front of his car.
Schumacher famously rammed Coulthard who had lifted as Spa, etc ...

I have to say i love races in the rain, it does separate the "boys from the men", however, f.1 is already a very dangerous sport, i can't support making drivers further risk their lives in order for me to be entertained.
If the drivers are able to see where they're going, than it would be acceptable (still dangerous but at least, they can see the danger coming), but currently they really are blind, no life lost is worth the entertainement. I say this, and my 2 favourite drivers where the best i ever saw in the rain, and one of them is known for driving with a front wing slaped in front of his head!

It being Spa plays a major factor. If it was any other track they would have started earlier

even f1.tv did it - when the weather is hideous, you can show his very unattractive mama over and over, perhaps we should stick with the girlfriends.

This is what F1 used to be, should be. If my kid chose to be an F1 driver this is what I'd want him to do. No excuses, nor crying, no hesitation.

Yes, but you would have noticed there was hardly any spray in that footage.
Therefore the drivers had only to manage the lack of grip: they were not driving blind !!! ;)

If my memory serves me correct there were plenty of races in the past where they ran blind in the rain.:)

I'm not advocating zero safety but clearly we've gone to the to the extreme where they are being too safe. We need to at least bring it back to the middle. Otherwise what's the point? F1 races only when they can run intermediates? Hard pass from this fan.

They're being paid millions to take a risk and to entertain us. The cars got safer every year. F1 used to run in the rain. WTF happened?

Lauda, in Japan, got out of his car and refused to continue driving when the rain became too dangerous. Develop a system that lets the drivers decide...theirs are the lives at risk...if 5 (or more) drivers say it is unsafe, the race is red flagged until conditions improve.

Enzo wasn't happy with Lauda exiting the race because Lauda thought the rain was unsafe. Hunt won the race.

Piastri is on fire! Hopefully he will be champion this year. Norris still has to grow up.
Hamilton showing what hes made of. Great performance during the race and changed tires at the right time. G.O.A.T. experience!
Verstappen was slow even with a bigger wing to help on wet track. Hes not that skilled.

Hamilton took on a new engine hence why he started in the pitlane and passed backmarkers and mid-field teams until he caught up to Albon. He was then told to manage his tires via the pit wall like the other top teams were doing to make it a one-stop race. G.O.A.T. experience? Had he qualified better, better than Leclerc, then maybe you could say he had a "GOAT" drive in the race had he stayed ahead of Leclerc due to his "GOAT" qualifying....but that was less than a "GOAT" qualifying for the race. He also had a less than a "GOAT" Sprint Qualifying after he himself induced a rear wheel lockup taking him out of SQ1. So knock it off with all this "GOAT" driving as it was less than that to sum up his weekend at a Spa.

Max changed to a higher downforce rear wing after the Sprint Race due to the weather forecast the next day which said it was going to rain. Max also changed PU's to an already used one so there's that as well. So Max was limited somewhat.

Lewis did like 4 on track overtakes, rest was his engineers decision to pit and he gained 7 places just like that.

    GOAT experience...lol

Except that the race was dry since it was postponed until rain vanished - so Verstappen was not slow "even with a bigger wing", he was slow (at least partially, there could be other factors) because of the bigger wing that was a penalty with no rain anymore. The track was certainly not wet during the actual race (after the postponed start), so that more downforce was useless and more drag was a disadvantage.

Some conveniently forgetting his sprint race win already. Everyone and their dog knew Red Bull brough an ultra low downforce pack to Spa, none of them ran as low because their drivers couldn't handle the car except Max.

So if Max is not that good how did he win the Sprint :p

    - Note to self, If Max passes 4 cars in the wet in the future, he did not display any skill.

    Note: Interlagos 2016 & Interlagos 2024.

Count how many cars he passes in both races. That takes ALOT of skill and ALOT of talent in the wet.

Not sure you can convince Bas that is impressive. He already hinted that passing in the wet was not yesterday.

He started 18th ffs with the races 2nd fastest car.

Lets be real here shall we?

He passed Stroll - a man whose chin was wetter than the track was during the red flag, in the slowest car on the grid
    Sainz who has a Williams
    Hulk in a ****ing Sauber
Colapinto, a rookie in a Alpine
Lawson who had just come out the pit on cold slicks with Lewis on warm slicks.

Everything else was in the pit. If this is your example of a note worthy drive get your head checked.

He had a horrendous Spa weekend when he didn't get out of either quali 1.

Weak. I'm gonna remember that statement if Max pass anything in the wet, you better hope he doesn't pass the pitts.

    2024 17th to the win!!! :D Not a paltry P7

I'll even do the math for you ;) Lewis in Spa 2025 gained 11 position. Max in 2024 Interlagos gained 16.

    Facts.

Lauda was exceptionally courageous to do that.
I am not sure that you could find 5 drivers on the grid capable of repeating what he did.
