Cannot imagine giving up 4 stages of stock valved exhaust for an aftermarket open one. It's as loud as you'd ever want in track mode and near silent in stealth with zero drone

So what happened to the Nürburgring time? I think if they did a great time some leak would have happened, but there is complete radio silence? Some people were claiming it would beat the all time record. Now it seems like maybe it did not even break 7 minutes.

Most manufacturers delay the release but this seems a little too long given that they have a very short video of the attempt.

Ford delayed, but rumors hit well before the release. Even simple rumors of cheering heard from Ford tent during testing. But there seems to be absolute silence regarding this, no one is even talking about it anymore.

There is a ZR1 / ZR1X / Nurburgring thread on a dedicated Corvette site that shall not be named. ;)

  10. Honestly, Chevy should take a page from the Ferrari and Mclaren playbook.

Just forget about "official" Ring times.

Let others (like SportAuto) set Ring times, and then let the peanut gallery argue about which car is faster, what tires were used, who was the driver.

At this point, it's only really Porsche that has this sort of weird myopic focus and fascination on Ring times. So much so that they build cars to iteratively better each successive generation of the same car.

You honestly think they didn't break 7 minutes?
    How about this (my predictions):
    C8 Z06: low to mid 6:50's
    C8 ZR1: High 6:30's to low 6:40's
C8 ZR1X: no idea, not enough info yet on the car

Jim brought up a good point on a possible downside to active aero...i.e. what happens if the system fails/or is too slow to react at ultra high speeds when the driver has to make some correction.

    Here's some real driving. Mero in 2012 in a C6 ZR1 posting a 7:19
Corvette ZR1 returns to Nurburgring for new record (On Board)

  17. No matter the time, what's most impressive is that the driver is going to Aaron Link.

A GM executive, not a pro-driver. Not even a "magazine" pro driver.

Driven by engineers, who can wheel but aren't pro drivers. Super impressive.

Which begs the question, why not put a cocky and fearless late-20’s racer in those cars to extract every possible 10th of a second?

Edit….I just watched the ZR1 lap. Extraordinary effort for sure, but he clearly left some time on the table.

  22. Because 'Merica.

Guessing that Chevy wanted to keep all Red, White and Blue and most of the pro drivers that are facile at the Ring are not Red, White and Blue; they're euros.
