    Hello all,

I've decided that Ferrari F430 ownership is not for me, so I've gone back to Porsche.

Thank you all for the fantastic support and knowledge you have provided during my short period of Ferrari ownership!

    Best,

    Jason

    I'm going back to air-cooled; it's a 911 SC.

analog friendly... I've owned a few. Super nice 911. I had the euro predecessor : 1977 3.0 Carrera

Do I miss it? Kinda do. But it got totaled by a red light runner :(

i was never a Porsche guy ever since the infamous race in Against all Odds but i do like the retro style hoop of the Targas even though they are just decorative and not functional like the original ones. may pick up an older pre-turbo manual targa something like 2014-2016 i did test drive one and was underwhelmed at the exhaust note. would definitely have to do an aftermarket exhaust.

Well, 911SC is not the most care-free of air-cool Porsche but nice cars nevertheless. Especially if you don't drive it much. Finicky CIS, exploding airbox, Dilavar case studs, 915 gearboxes that will need a rebuild. I had a 1908 911SC for many years and finally sold it at the bottom of the market (I have better stock picks now). Best of luck to you.

Please tell us what you did not like about the Ferrari. The bad and the ugly. No need to tell us about the good things, if any.

That doesn't mean you have to leave FC, hell, look at me, 30,000 posts and I don't own a Ferrari.
I ALMOST did - in 2008 - then the market crashed the same week I was going to buy and I decided to
hang onto my money instead of going thru with a TR purchase.

That was quick! There was one other chatter that bought and sold 360 quickly too…and ironically went back to Porsche. I did the opposite. Sold a 430, had quick a fling with a 911, then married another 430. Porsche just wasn’t my comfort zone:(

I think parts prices and availability are close to the top of my list of concerns. Also, the folding top mechanism seemed trouble prone and I was concerned about it failing and the cost of repair parts. And then there’s the inevitable exhaust manifold failure, which is BIG $$$ to replace and I'm not convinced the aftermarket manifolds will hold up. The secondary vibration in the flat-plane crank is just too frantic, which causes the manifolds to fatigue, not to mention the taillight mounts cracking, which mine did.

Also, I was concerned about the leather dashboard shrinking with age and I never could figure out why my alarm system would go off sporadically.

I just did not feel comfortable with the needy maintenance aspect of the F430, even though I perform all my own maintenance. So, essentially I think it’s the F430's vulnerability to problems coupled with the price of parts that drove me away.

Parts prices, parts availability and the fragile nature of the F430 drove me back to Porsche.

Trouble is a Porsche although better built and more reliable is proper boring in comparison.

Perhaps, my 992S was boring in comparison to my F430.

But I also have a '66 MGB and '76 Corvette and they are much much slower cars than the 992S and the F430 but it's so much fun to drive analog. In essence, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast rather drive a fast car slow. Yes, it's an old cliché but it's true.

I'm looking forward to my 911 SC, which is analog and slow, but fun!

Maybe an early beetle might be even better, if you like tractor esque drives. I couldn’t go back to an old 911, I mean a G50 box is about as vague and long a throw as I could handle! Older cars are always going to be more analog and ten tenth, they are just less refined and less powerful.

Each to their own though and good luck with your new journey.

Some people like blondes, some like brunettes. There's no wrong answer. I like both.

I like both ... at the same time. It's why I have Porsches and Ferraris.

I always associate Porsches with Beetles , but I grew up in communist eastern Europe, so... it was one of the 3 choices we had. Many of those on the street, all manual and no AC, no assisted steering (didn't need one).

I would compare the 1300CC beetle from that era to the GT3 of the 911 today, it was that good compared to the Russian cars.

Some people can only afford one: blonde or brunette... so they have to pick.

I wish I liked Porsche and sometimes when a bill comes up on my 360 I wish I left my Ferrari desire a dream but now that I own one I will never like any other sports car as much as I love my 360. I really don’t understand why I like my 360 so much but I do for some reason. The 360 had a big impact on me when it came out which I was a teenager then.
